How could epithets be useful for an oral poet?

Epithets fit in with the ‘meter’ or rhythmic structure of the poem in Greek.

Epithets can be used as a memory aid by the performer.

Repetitve blocks and structures allow the poet to ‘build’ the story without remembering it all.
