Horror Posters

One Main Face

These are effective as they clearly show they are of the horror genre and the faces are emotionless or

terrified. They tell part of the narrative but not

enough to give anything away and they draw the

spectator in as they want to know more about the

characters.

The weaponThese feature the weapon to show how the victims

will be killed. They are effective as they give insight to the narrative and create suspense as they can be seemingly harmless objects.

Power PlayThese show the antagonist standing over either victim or the protagonist.

This is key to horror as their is always some sort of conflict causing the happenings. These are effective posters as they reveal the good and the evil. It gives power to the antagonist through the use of low angles.

Key CharactersThese posters show the key characters and let the audience know who will be in the film and creating an emotional response. The

simplicity of both is effective as they still show the horror genre but are not over the top.

Direct Link to the TitleThe title of the film is directly shown within the poster

and links to the visuals. This is effective as it reinforces the narrative and the ways the horror unfolds. It also explains the image in some ways.

Group CharactersI like the effect of having the characters viewed in the poster as it shows

them to be important to the narrative rather than just antagonist.

Links to my ownAs my trailer and ‘Stage Fright’

share a theme of the theatre I have looked at its posters. The curtain is effective as it is an icon of the theatre and is minimalistic, the blood showing the horror aspects of the film. The girl in the second poster shows the innocence that the theatre should have but isn’t portrayed in my trailer. The tag line “sing your heart out” allows the audience to guess the film has something to do with singing on a stage which can be garnered from the poster.

I think I will either use the idea of a group image for my poster or the power play as they make the genre more obvious. I like the one main

face but if I do not capture the correct image it can look shoddy. I think the weapon image is over used as most would expect some sort of

killing device within a horror film.
