A. RIZAL AS A STUDENT

• In Binan Laguna - From 1870-1871 - His teacher was Maestro Justiniano Cruz. - He had an enemy named Pedro. - Best Student in School.• College of San Juan de Letran - He passed in the examination but he didn’t enrolled.

• Ateneo de Municipal - From 1872 to 1877 - First Professor was Fr. Jose Bech - He was first at the Externo then later transferred at Interno. - Rizal received excellent grade and a gold medal. - His mother,Teodora Alonzo was released in prison.

• University of Santo Tomas - Scholastic year of 1878 to 1882. - Taking up the course of Philosophy and letters. - During his first term,Rizal still studied in Ateneo taking a vocational course of Perito Agrimensor ( Expert Surveyor ) - During his second term,he shifted his course to medicine. - Joined in an organization of Filipino students called "companerismo" where he is the chief.

• Unibersidad Central de Madrid - Enrolled on November 3,1882 - Took the two course of Medicine,Philosphy and Letters.

• Academy of San Carlos - Studied painting and sculpture

• Sanz y Carbonell - Practiced fencing and shooting.

B. RIZAL AS AN ARTIST

Rizal showed his flair in Painting, sketching, sculpture and literature. Rizal's writings:- " To my fellow children"- "A tribute to my town"- "To the child Jesus"

- "The Intimate Alliance between Religion and education" - "My Retreat"- "To the Philippine youth"- "Education gives luster to the Motherland"- " They ask me for verses!"- "To the flowers of Heidelberg"- " My last farewell"

Rizal was also a prolific poet, diarist, essayist, correspondent and novelist whose famous novels where the:

C. Rizal as a Lover

- Rizal was linked to so many women. However not all these relationships can be regarded as Rizal's romantic interest. Relationships:

- They met during the summer vacation of Rizal in Calamba.

Vicenta because of her talent in playing harp.

- She was regarded as the first woman and lover Rizal.- But it ended with a sad fate when Segunda was married to Manuel Luz.

Leonor Valenzuela - They met because Rizal’s Dormitory was beside Leonor’s Dormitory.

- Rizal transferred to the Dormitory of his Uncle Antonio Rivera where he met Leonor. - Leonor was regarded as the true love of Rizal that lasted 10 years. - But their story didn't last because Leonor was engaged to Henry Kipping.

- Rizal is often visiting Consuelo's Father .- Rizal had to let her go.

O Sei-san- The girl she fell in love with in Japan.

- Rizal boarded at the Beckett's house.- Out of loyalty to Leonor Rivera he left Paris to avoid Gettie.

-Rizal was a guest of Bousted’s Family.- Later on they parted because of differences.

- He lived in the boarding house of the two Jacoby sisters. One of them is Suzanne who fell in love with Rizal so did Rizal.

D. Rizal as a Traveler

• Singapore - He boarded at Salvadora. - After five days, he reached the Singapore. - He stayed at the Hotel de Paz during the two days of his stop-over in Singapore. - In Singapore,Rizal boarded Djemnah. - From Port Said,the Djemnah proceeded on its way to Europe.

• Naples and Marseilles - On June 11,Rizal reached Naples. - On the night of June 12, the steamer docked at the French Harbor of Marseilles. - He stayed three days in Marseilles,enjoying every day of his sojourn.

• Barcelona - Rizal's first impression of Barcelona was unfavorable because he happened to stay in a dingy inn. - Some Filipinos who welcomed Rizal were his schoolmates in Ateneo. -They gave him a party in their favorite café in Plaza de Cataluna.

• Madrid - Rizal left Barcelona in the fall of 1882 and established himself in Madrid. - He often visits at the house of Don Pablo Ortega y Rey,a liberal-minded Spaniard and civil Governor of Manila during General Carlos Ma. De la Torre's administration.

• Gay Paris - In October,1885, Rizal was living in Paris,where he sojourned for about foyr months. - He worked as an assistant to Dr. Louis de Weckert, a leading French Opthalmologist.

• Heidelberg,Germany - On February 8,1886, he arrived in Heidelberg. - For short time he lived in a boarding house with some German law students. - Later Rizal lived with a Lutheran minister, Pastor Karl Ullmer.

• Leipzig - On August 8,1886,Rizal left the city of Heidelberg.He boarded a train and arrived in Liepzig on August 14,1886. - Rizal stayed in Leipzig from August 14 to October 29,1886.

• Berlin - Rizal led a methodical and frugal life in Berlin. - By day, he worked as an assistant in the clinic of Dr. Schulzer.At night he attended lectures in the University of Berlin. -He also spent his leisure moments along Unter den Linden,sipping beers in the city's inns and talking with the friendly Berliners.

• Rizal's tour of Europe with Viola,1887 - Dresded - Geneva - Leitmeritz - Italy - Prague - Vienna - Danubian - Lintz - Rheinfall - Switzerland
