Executive summary
A well organised and civilised society should not be attributed to the developed countries
alone…it can be achieved in Kwara state.
Pr.com is proposing a training, orientation and re orientation for commercial
road users in Kwara state, a development that is expected to save lives and property, time , money and give a new image to the
state.
18 to 25 million Naira goes down the drain every hour as a result of avoidable traffic jams
which are traceable to impatience , inadequate
experience or lack of experience on the side of
motorists.
A typical Traffic jam in Ilorin
If money and time are not that valuable, what about irreparable
loss of lives and property that emanate from recklessness ,
insensitivity and carelessness of road users, especially commercial drivers?
Broken down vehicles, capsized trucks/trailers, drunk drivers,
untrained Motorcyclists and other road and transportation vices are
also the harbingers of loss of money, time , lives and property.
Way forward ? ?
The roles of Orientation, Re-orientation and Capacity building
can not be ignored by any forward looking
ministry/organization.
Only ministry/organisation with professional hindsight and foresight take into consideration, the training and retraining of its stakeholders for the betterment of a state.
Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transportation, is a corporate ministry saddled with a sensitive assignment: A state task which could contribute in terms of economy and image boost or otherwise for state and nation as a whole.
No doubt, Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transportation is all out to give the best in terms of stewardship and dividends of Democracy to modern Kwarans.
All these potentials and latent responsibilities can only be efficiently carried out by a rejuvenated ministry and properly trained Road users.
THEME
d modern kwara
Why training ? ?• “The old idea was that the school cooked you
until you were done, and then you went to work. Now, you ‘ve got to be constantly cooking. If companies want to be continuously innovative to meet competition, they must engage in continuous career-long training of all employees”
• -John Hoerr, 1990
Pr.com is proposing sectional training for all commercial road users in the whole of Kwara State.
The training sessions will cut across;Driving etiquette
Understanding road signsDaily routine check up on vehicles
Basic driving skillsCleanliness
Time management for maximum profitHuman psychology
Human relationsetc
For who ??• Members of NURTW• Members of RTEAN• Commercial motorcyclists• Truck/tanker/trailer drivers• Taxi drivers• Campus shuttle drivers• Government drivers• Bullion vans and other bank drivers etc
What next ? ?• All the training participants would be given
certificates• The certificate with the drivers’ licence would
be the only documents that allow any commercial drivers in Kwara State
• In government cycle and amongst the Unions, only the certificated drivers would be given jobs
are we effective ? ?Evaluation is one key aspect of training
programme that requires optimum attention Pr.com has designed ways by which the
Unions can measure the extent of the effectiveness of their monetary, time and personnel investment in the training.
Among other things, a training questionnaire will be administered on the trainees to measure their attitude toward the training.
Also, a productivity report on the performances of the trained persons after the programme will be drawn by a manager-designate and made available the Chairmen and trainer Agency.
Evaluation helps, how ? ?• The evaluation will further rub in the wealth
of experiences learned during the training, turning those experiences into skills.
• It will also make the training appear (as it is), an activity aimed at human development, unlike making the participants view it as a mere recreational exercise.
Conclusion
•Pr.com packaged this presentation with the belief that, we shall be called upon to give a full –blown presentation to the Ministry very soon.
