LANGUAGE.

“We Talk” Espanol founder Butch Grimes is bridging the gap of cultural diversity by offering Spanish and English classes to underserved communities. The Wetalkespanol.com & The Savior Faire partnership is a collaborative effort of necessity and good business. “It’s time to stop brushing it under the carpet. Times, people and business has and will continue to change. Our demographics and the way we do business is evolving. Learning a new language is the wave of the future. We need to get on the ball or get out of business” Founder Butch Grimes said. The wetalkespanol.com partnership is not a high school language program! Recent research into first and second language learning shows that a communicative, interactive method is the most effective and efficient way to start speaking a foreign language. Are you worried about tripping over your tongue or not “getting it”? don’t be! our curriculum is specially organized to support beginners. Expect lots of carefully designed speaking activities and mini conversations where you can safely practice with your fellow students to become fluent as you go. WeTalkEspanol and it’s immersion program doesn't believe in making up two years worth of grammar constructions before you begin to master speaking. You need to get productive and speak, now!

The WeTalkEspanol-Savior Faire Program will support your future real–life business conversations by setting up many, simulated, culturally correct practice situations in which you are really going to find yourself:•Small talk to establish relationships with clients•Negotiating•Inquiring and solving problems•Training staff•Communicating with business associates•Sales presentations•And more

IMMERSION??

WHAT IS THE IMMERSION APPROACH?

An immersion foreign language classroom at Savoir Faire is one in which most of the class is conducted in a language other than English. The teacher speaks only Spanish, for example, to greet you, explain his weekend, to get you started on an exercise. He may use English to clarify grammar points or to reduce a moment of frustration you may be experiencing. He may use English, depending on your level, to discuss a cultural issue as often the level of language required and the subtleness of the issue would be too complicated to be understood in a foreign language alone. The teacher may use one or all of the following methods to help you to comprehend what he is saying: draw, mime, demonstrate, make noises, gesture, repeat, repeat in a different way, refer to something you already know all while carefully watching your body language and your face for lack of comprehension. Savoir Faire provides Clarification Phrases© to help our students participate in the immersion process by learning to effortlessly ask for comprehension help in the foreign language they are learning. This is a valuable skill in the classroom and even more so when speaking with native speakers in a foreign country.

WHY IS THE IMMERSION APPROACH THE BEST?

Most of our students want primarily to speak and understand the language they are learning. The immersion approach is by far the best way to learn to speak a foreign language because it most simulates an authentic experience. Everyone agrees that going to live in a foreign country speeds up the ability to speak and understand. Our classrooms utilize this well known fact by conducting as much of the class as possible in a foreign language. This provides you the opportunity to acquire language much in the same manner you acquired your first language. As you recall, no formal explanations were required! Though it is easier (at first) to have a lot of English spoken in your classroom, it is not true to the in-country experience that we all agree is the most powerful foreign language experience. If our teachers routinely followed every foreign language utterance with an English translation, you would unconsciously wait for the English. You can see how this would slow your progress considerably. However, we acknowledge that the classroom is an artificial environment and a certain amount of grammar and explanations are needed to help you learn about the language. Learning about the language helps you to monitor your speech for accuracy. But the immersion approach only works to the extent that you understand what the teacher is saying. There is an art to teaching in an immersion classroom and this is the reason Savoir Faire hires and trains well-educated instructors.

THE BEST AND EASIEST CHOICE(2THE BEST AND EASIEST CHOICE(2))

WHAT ARE COMMUNICATIVE METHODS?

Our language classrooms are a balance of acquisition (speaking and listening/comprehending) and learning (grammar).

We use the immersion approach to get you comfortable being inundated with unfamiliar language and then give you tools such as Clarification Phrases©, meaning cues through pictures, gesturing, re-saying etc. to help you navigate your way through to comprehension. Students want to be able to speak a foreign language better than, they know how it works!

Our communicative methods and techniques go hand- in- hand with this immersion approach. If you truly want to have conversations with native speakers you need lots of practice approximating those conversations and lots of practice salvaging understanding from language that goes right over your head.

Acquiring a language (speaking and understanding) in a communicative, immersion classroom means hearing and understanding foreign language and using it in meaningful, task-oriented exercises that most mirror the interactions you might really have with a native speaker.

The communicative methods we employ to accomplish this include many role-plays, games where real life information needs to be exchanged for success, opportunities for spontaneous conversation with classmates and the teacher and more.

You need lots and lots of this aspect of language learning to speak fluently and spontaneously without hesitations and fear. Learning a language, on the other hand, is when you study grammar and syntax and is great to allow you to correct yourself and to be more accurate.

Over using your knowledge of grammar can cause you to become paralyzed with the need to be perfect and interfere with your fluency growth. You need much less of this aspect of language learning to communicate successfully.

THE BEST AND EASIEST CHOICE(3THE BEST AND EASIEST CHOICE(3)) WHAT ABOUT READING AND WRITING?

Reading and writing can support your goal to speak a foreign language. Reading and writing are important to learning to speak a foreign language. Reading can help

you expand your vocabulary and to repeatedly see how the grammar works. Writing helps you to remember how the language is constructed. Reading and writing aid in helping you to remember language when you speak. As a communicative school, we provide every opportunity in-class for you to speak and understand, so few reading and writing exercises occur in class. These activities are generally reserved for homework. In Savoir Faire group classes, we look at reading and writing as a way to further the immersion process and as tools to help our students to speak more accurately and have better conversations.

OUR GOAL FOR YOU:

We want for you to stand in front of a group of foreign speakers and successfully and confidently ask questions regardless of your language level and regardless of how complicated the exchange.

We do not want for you to stand in front of a group of foreign speakers and be only able to talk about how the past tense works. And, we would like you to be better at asking and answering questions than explaining the past tense. The immersion approach and our communicative methods powerfully combine to make this true for our students.

We want you to be able to speak a foreign language better than, knowing how it works!

operations of Team Equity L.A., he is the past State President of the California Association of Real Estate Brokers (CAREB). Grimes’ influence on the 54-year-old organization is illustrated by its embracing of 21st century technologies needed to maintain and enhance its power, influence and education. Prior to serving as State President of CAREB, Grimes was a two-term President of the Consolidated Realty Board.

Grimes shares his considerable real estate knowledge in his weekly radio show, “We Talk Real Estate with Butch Grimes” on KTYM, 1460 AM in Los Angeles. The show is the first live talk radio show dedicated to addressing real estate questions and concerns of inner city communities. He also writes a monthly column as the, “The Real Estate Insider” for many statewide and local newspaper like The L.A. Focus Magazine.

Due to his vast experience and speaking ability, Grimes has recently been retained as a state-wide Real Estate Instructor and speaker by The Professional Realtor Institute. PRI, as it is formally called provides college

equivalent education courses recognized by the Department of Real Estate and the National Association of Realtors as the #1 Real Estate designation earned in the country. (GRI Designation).

Recently Butch Grimes was selected to join the prestigious “Center Stage” National Speaking Tour along with the “Great American Homeownership Challenge” #1 Best Seller Author,Speaker and Co-Host of “DEBT DIET with Oprah Winfrey”, David Bach. The tour is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank.
