Do you believe that you will be in your current job this time next year?

There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint

the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror, for

peaceful towering mountains were all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw the picture thought it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare.

Above was an angry sky from which rain fell, and in which lightening played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had her nest. There in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest.

The king chose the second picture as the winner. “Because,” explained

the king, “peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be

calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”

The Moral: “Real peace is when one can be calm in the midst of tumultuous

surroundings”.

When journey is more enjoyable than the destination; then why

should we waste our precious time in waiting for that ideal moment in life? Why should we leave in constant insecurity and endless hope that someday things will be far better than what they are today?

This ‘someday better’ attitude is very illusive. On the surface it seems

to be promising. It seems to provide a hope. But underneath it brings a lot of misery and detest. It is full of resentment

about the present. It gives us boredom, irritation, laziness or simple arrogance.

All these ill feelings take our present away from us. These negative

and illusory thoughts put on a permanent hook. It prevents us from experiencing our present by being in a denial mode. And denial mode is not conducing to create a better future.

So why should we postpone our happiness for an uncertain outcome?

Rather choose a journey worth

the time and effort. Enjoy the journey. Cherish the moments. Make it memorable. Live in the present.

Are you in a never ending journey? - Tapas Dasmohapatra

The greatest sin is to think yourself weak”.

Initiatives are new resume. Simply doing your job is not enough. That will limit

your growth whereas taking initiatives will expand your horizon, it will broaden your thinking and sharpen your skills. Thus without being told when you do something constructive it is called initiative. Keep looking for opportunities to do something extra in your organization. Take initiative. Masters of Responsibility above and beyond the expected job description.

Stick tenaciously to an idea or project and follow it through to successful implementation. Willingly assume some personal risk in

taking on new responsibilities.

Technical competencies can only take you so far. You need to show more initiative – that’s the key to being more than average! Simply doing your job is not initiative. Taking initiative involves more expansive thinking than going after ideas that make your more productive at your own job.

It is one of the powerful qualities that seperate the star performers from avergae performers. Alomst everybody performs and meets the expectations in terms of performance. They fulfil the key responsibilities assigned to them and remain confined to those assigned tasks only. Star

performers always go beyond their job description.. they understand and accept the responsibility as well as accountability of their role. In order to give their best to the organization , star performance go an extra mile. They do somethng extra which become significant contrubution to the organization. Start performers do something extra even if they have not been told to do so and that makes them stand out.

One life, infinite respon-sibilities, pOften in our lives we struggle with so

many questions like- why this has happened to me, why I have not got this job , why I did not get the promotion, why he/she did has not supported me, how can she/he betrayed on me. Unfair people and situations revolve around us and we become panic, uncomfort-able and curse our life of what life has planned for us. We feel like, nothing is going good, the way we thought and it can’t be as well. We become so negative that things which could be enjoyed and mo-ments that can be cherished, we miss on them just because of the bitter flavor we have tasted. These

unfavorable situations and unfair people gives pain and horrible experience at the time of occur-rence but in reflection if we real-ize that without overcoming those obstacles we would have never realized our potential, strength and will power . They help us to mirror ourselves better and closer to oneself. Nothing happens by chance, everything happens for reason. Injury, love, lost moments, sheer stupidity, loneliness, rejec-tion all occurs to test our soul, the real potential of our soul. An even graph in our life can make it smooth and comfortable no doubt but it will make life dull and pointless for sure. These unfavor-able situations and unfair people

somehow help us in creating who we are today. Even the worst ex-periences give you the hardest but yes the important lesson in life. We should learn from these situa-tions and experiences and should gather courage to step ahead and find another meaning to life, be-cause if not today, time will cer-tainly answer “why” it happened.

“Neither seek nor avoid, take what comes.”

“Work is a blessing, it is never too much.”

What makes us smart, valuable and respect-ed? If you think it is

our color, complexion or features I am afraid it is true only if you are interested in Bollywood (not even Hollywood). As per my understanding it is our WORK which gets us all the apprecia-tion, money, security, respect and recognition. Mr. Shahrukh Khan is modelling in an advertisement where he is promoting “Fair and Handsome” cream for men. As per my understanding men only need shaving cream. Mr. Barack Obama does not need fair and handsome, he is already the most handsome and powerful person on this planet without being fair in color. (If you don’t like Ameri-can example, consider Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela).

People like or dislike us be-cause of our work and be-havior. In some cases, if

you are working fine then some of your behavioral deficiencies are also overlooked. We witness all the time in families that an earn-ing member irrespective of his/her seniority gets more respect than non-earning members. Even bad temper or other behavioral defi-ciencies are overlooked, ignored or tolerated without making a big fuss about it. I am not advocating

these behavioral deficiencies but my limited point is that work su-persedes everything else. In cor-porate world it is all evident that any manager who is achieving the targets is given more promotion than those who are otherwise very fine person. We call these people as ‘Sharks’ in the tank.

Work not only gives us money and respect it also gives us content-

ment. We might keep acquiring all the knowledge of the world but ultimate happiness comes in achieving something or doing something. All great things or achievements that we possess or enjoy today are the result of some dedicated people’s unwavering commitment towards their work.

What kind of people you want around you. People who love their

work and do their work with their heart and soul or people who have to work? Do you want your driver to keep thinking about his family while driving? Are you OK if the doctor or surgeon is absent mind-ed while in clinic? How about po-lice or army? How about your car cleaning boy? We want everyone around us to take 100% interest in whatever they do. It does not mat-ter that how much money they are charging from us. We want 100% attention and perfection in their job, however insignificant that may be. We want the sweeper to clean the floor and make it shine like a mirror by paying pennies.

Don’t we? But when it comes to our own work, do we have the same mindset?

Work, which is not avail-able to most of us in India is certainly

a blessing for us who have it. People planning their holidays in advance for six months but don’t make a “to do list” for tomorrow in evening. Some of us are per-fectly ok if we have nothing to do, rather we enjoy that. How sad.

Work helps us to cel-ebrate the birthdays, anniversaries and fes-

tivals. It should be our top most priority but unfortunately for some it is the have to category item.

Job Interview

Less vs More

Thoughts !!!

Two bright young engineers ap-plied for the same position at a computer company. Since they had identical qualifications, the company asked the two appli-cants to take a ten-question test. At the conclusion of the test, one of the applicants was called into the manager’s office.

“I have graded the test, and you both scored nine correct answers and got one answer wrong. Thank you for your interest, but we’ve decided to give the job to the oth-er applicant.”

“And why would you choose him if we both got nine questions cor-

rect?” asked the rejected appli-cant.

“We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed,” said the department manager.

“And just how would one incor-rect answer be better than the other?” the rejected applicant in-quired.

“Simple,” said the department manager, “The other gentleman answered Question No. 5, ‘I don’t know.’ Your answer to Question #5 was, ‘Neither do I.’”

First, believe in the world—that there is meaning behind everything.
