• The oldest school in Lucca and one of the oldest in Italy

• The original building dates back to the sixteenth century; significant upgrade in the XVIII c.

• From 1819 to 1849: building hosts the Liceo Reale, a part of the University of Lucca (founded by Maria Luisa Borbone), and is endowed with botanical gardens, an astronomic observatory, a physics cabinet, an anatomy theatre, and a natural history museum.

• In 1861, following the Unità d’Italia, it becomes a state-run Liceo Classico.

• Population: 257 students aged 15-19, 30 teachers, but the liceo has been recently merged with two adjoining secondary schools. Student population is now about 1,000; teachers: about 120.

• Partecipation in national and international meetings of the European Federalist Movement (one of our students selected nationwide).

• Two Excellence Awards given to students by the Da vid G io va ni Bo a rd in 2013 and 2014 to participate in the Venice Film Festival as junior Press reviewers.
