For the 2013-2014 school year, the library at LIS is sponsoring a year of reading. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend our LIS Reads celebration in the library on September 6th to introduce our first community read, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, and kick off our year of reading. Throughout the month, there will be related activities in the libraries, and at the end of the month, there will be a book club meeting and celebration for students and teachers to discuss the novel.

After the whole school read of Wonder, LIS Reads will continue with monthly book clubs. Each month, there are four English options and several Portuguese options for students to choose from, with reading levels ranging from the ELC to the Diploma Programme. Each month’s books have shared themes, so LIS community members can select the level and language of book most appropriate for them.

Through this initiative, we hope to grow the reading culture at LIS, both at school and at home. Please encourage your child to participate by purchasing copies of these texts over the break and reading with them throughout the school year. Thanks to the LIS PTA, the libraries will have several copies of each text to lend for families who are unable to purchase copies over the break.

Attached you will find a list of the monthly selections for LIS Reads. Please contact Ms. Katy or Ms. Kerrie-Anne if you have any questions about these texts or the LIS Reads program.

We look forward to reading with you!
