“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! Who: LIS parents, students and teachers What: School Wide Reading Initiative When: September 2014- May 2015 Why: To promote and develop a reading culture within our community The LIS libraries are continuing to sponsor a year of reading through our LIS Reads – LIS Lê program. Thank you to everyone who participated from August to December, reading books set in or written by authors from African countries, including our whole school read of Nelson Mandela’s biographies. After the December/January break, we have new English and Portuguese selections with reading levels ranging from the ELC to the Diploma Programme. Each term’s books have shared themes, so LIS community members can select the level and language of book most appropriate for them. Through this initiative, we hope to grow the reading culture at LIS, both at school and at home. Please encourage your child to participate by purchasing copies of LIS Reads – LIS Lé texts over the break and reading with them throughout the school year. The libraries will also have several copies of each text to lend for families who are unable to purchase copies over the break. Attached you will find a list of the LIS Reads – LIS Lê selections for the rest of the school year. Please contact Ms. Jenni or Ms. Katy if you have any questions about these texts or the LIS Reads program. We look forward to reading with you! "Quanto mais leres, mais coisas saberás. Quanto mais aprenderes, mais longe irás." - Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
