Luento 2: Mitä opittiin?

TEKNINEN
HAKUKONE-
OPTIMOINTI
12
Brändin positiointistrategia Internetissä
(Salminen 2012)
• määritä brändisana(t)
– erottaa sinut muista
– tarkoittaa jotain (hakuintentio)
• rakenna hakukonepresenssi brändisanalle
(orgaaninen + maksettu)
• toista brändisanaa kaikissa viesteissä, kaikissa
kanavissa (online + offline) (retargeting)
• rakenna sivun visuaalinen ilme (logo, kuvitus, väritys,
videot) tukemaan brändisanan sisältöä
• saa kilpailijat käyttämään ko. termiä
• hae brändisanalle suojaa (tuotemerkki: PRH +
Google)
13
Sisältöstrategian luominen (content
strategy)
• yhdistä eri kanavat yhden strategian alle (yhden
strategian periaate)
• aja sosiaalinen media omalle sivullesi
• osallistu keskusteluun siellä missä tapahtuu
• käytä samaa viestiä eri kanavissa
• testaa eri viestejä eri kanavissa
• kierrätä sisältöä eri alustoissa (1 video, 3 käyttöä:
blogi, Youtube, Facebook); mukauta formaattiin
sopivaksi
• varmista, että sisältö on relevanttia ja liittyy sekä
brändiin että tuotekategoriaan (relevanssi)
14
Relevanssi vähentää
haaskaa, haaska on
vihollinen, relevanssi on ystävä.
Sisällön relevanssi ei riitä
hakukonekisassa?
”I think there‟s different issues at play here. I can agree with you that
links are not the most important factor for being a result in Google,
that would be having content relevant to the search query.
The problem with relevant content is that lots of people have it.
Sure, getting 100,000 links to a blank page won‟t make it rank for the
search „credit cards‟, but neither will writing the best analysis of credit
cards ever written. You need relevant content to be one of the millions of
results returned for most queries, you need links to be at the top. Links
convey authority, they convey trust. If 100,000 people are linking to an
article on credit cards, then that is a good article about credit cards in a
search engines mind.
In that respect, I don‟t think its unfair at all to say links are 70% of
„ranking‟ because the things that are ranked well, have the links to
prove it.” (nimim. CF, 2009)

Haulla ’digitaalinen
markkinointi’
How users read on the Web (Nielsen 1997)
They don’t. People rarely read Web pages word by word; instead, they scan the page,
picking out individual words and sentences. In research on how people read websites we
found that 79 percent of our test users always scanned any new page they came across;
only 16 percent read word-by-word. As a result, Web pages have to employ scannable
text, using
– highlighted keywords (hypertext links serve as one form of highlighting; typeface variations
and color are others)
– meaningful sub-headings (not "clever" ones)
– bulleted lists
– one idea per paragraph (users will skip over any additional ideas if they are not caught by
the first few words in the paragraph)
– the inverted pyramid style, starting with the conclusion
– half the word count (or less) than conventional writing
We found that credibility is important for Web users, since it is unclear who is behind
information on the Web and whether a page can be trusted. Credibility can be
increased by high-quality graphics, good writing, and use of outbound hypertext links.
Links to other sites show that the authors have done their homework and are not afraid to
let readers visit other sites.
Users detested ‘marketese’; the promotional writing style with boastful subjective claims
(„hottest ever‟) that currently is prevalent on the Web. Web users are busy: they want to
get the straight facts. Also, credibility suffers when users clearly see that the site
exaggerates.”

Epäeettinen Internet-markkinointi
• klikkipetos (click fraud)
– inflatorinen (lisää rahaa) tai kilpailijaan kohdistuva
(lisää kustannuksia)
– monitoroi & rankaise
• blackhat SEO (keyword stuffing, duplicate content,

• linkkifarmit (link farms)
– havaitse & blokkaa
• spämmi
– vaadi rekisteröinti, moderoi, captchas

Psykologinen manipulointi (emotional triggers)
“The primary emotion is curiosity. You‟ve probably seen many ads making
outrageous claims. These ads attempt get attention by making consumers want to know
if such statements are true. In general, the more shocking the claim, the more you can
peak curiosity.
– Have you seen the ads where the marketer claims to me making $90,000 a month? Have
you been curious to find out if that‟s true or how he did it?
Another emotion is insecurity. Almost everyone has certain aspect about themselves
that they are insecure about. In addition, certain demographics tend to share insecurities.
For example, teenagers tend to be insecure about their popularity in school. Your sales
copy can promise to address feelings of insecurity.
– Good examples of insecurity in advertising are commercials for insurance for senior
citizens. These commercials appeal to the health concerns of the elderly, and promise
security with their policies.
Fear is the third emotion you can use. Consumers have many fears, death, financial
debt, loss of someone close to them, aging and more. Your sales copy can appeal to
these fears, and them promise alleviate them with your product.
– Pharmaceutical commercials for high blood pressure or heart disease tend to rely on fear.
These commercials use statistical figures to provoke fears of disease and death.
Vanity is the next emotion. People tend to want to improve themselves. Your sales
copy can promise to make them look better, feel stronger or be healthier.
– Fitness equipment uses vanity in their advertising. How many home gym machines promise
all three of the above?
Greed is another powerful emotional trigger. Almost everyone could use more money.
Internet marketing ads make use of greed, promising more traffic, more sales and bigger
returns.” (Smith 2008)
33
Pohdintaa…
• Milloin markkinointiviestintä muuttuu spämmiksi?
– kun sitä on liikaa (frekvenssi)
– kun sitä ei ole kohdennettu
– kun siitä ei pääse eroon (opt out)
• Asiakas kiittää, hylkää eikä palaa enää koskaan
(tähän suruhymiö)

Facebookin edut (Johnson 2011)
1. “Facebook ads are still much cheaper than many other display
and search advertising options.
2. Furthermore, the low CTR doesn‟t mean the ads fail to reinforce
a branding message. On top of that, the fast rate of CTR doesn‟t
detract from the fact that the average Facebook user may get a
heavy dose of that ad.
3. If strong, repetitive brand messaging to a highly targeted
user is the goal, then Facebook – which can facilitate
demographic, psychographic and geographic targeting – may be
the ideal advertising medium.”
48
Facebookin
käyttäjämäärä
Mainonnan testaaminen Facebookissa
(Voutilainen 2012)
”Haluatko esimerkiksi tietää miten yrityksesi nykyinen arvolupaus pureutuu
kilpailevasta brändistä tykkääviin? Tai herättäisiko jokin aivan toisenlainen
arvolupaus enemmän vastakaikua heissä? Onnistuu.
Ehkä halutaan mennä vieläkin tarkemmaksi: esimerkiksi minkälainen
rekrytointiviesti uppoaa parhaiten tietyn ikäisiin, irtisanomisuhan alla
oleviin teknologiatyöntekijöihin? Onnistuu. Espoossa ja 40 km sen
ympärillä asuville 30-39 -vuotiaille Nokian työntekijöille (480 hlö)
suunnatut mainokset voisivat antaa mielenkiintoista tietoa. Tätä tietoa
pystyttäisiin vertaamaan vastaaviin 40-49 -vuotiaisiin (320 hlö), tai
vaikkapa vastaaviin tamperelaisiin (460 hlö).
49
• Joka kuvasta tehdään oma mainoksensa ja
kohderyhmän ihmiset osoittavat yhtä
mainosvariaatiota klikkaamalla, minkä kuvan ovat
kokeneet houkuttelevimmaksi.
• Testiperiodin aikana korkeimman
napsautussuhteen saanut mainoskuva on voittaja.
Kun testi tehdään tällä tavalla aidossa,
jokapäiväisessä ympäristössä, eikä esim. kyselyn
avulla, saadaan aitoa ja ‟rehellistä‟ tietoa.
• Useimmiten tilastollisesti merkitseviä tuloksia alkaa
näkymään jo muutamien päivien jälkeen.”
Facebookin heikkoudet
“Webtrends‟ research also shows that, as with display
advertising in general, Facebook ads are eliciting
decreasing CTRs even as the CPC and CPM are on the
rise.
In 2009, the average ad on Facebook generated an
average 0.063% CTR and $0.27 CPC. In 2010, the
average CTR dropped to 0.051%, while the costs were
$0.49 CPC.
So if Facebook ad CTRs are half the norm and tend to
drop off so quickly… is it worth advertising on
Facebook?” (Johnson 2011)
50
Facebookin heikkoudet (Nicholls 2012)
“Currently, consumers aren‟t going to social networks to
shop, but instead to socialise, have fun and share. This
shows a disconnect between the way some brand
marketers view social networking sites (as a
channel to sell more) and the way that consumers
view them (as a way of interacting and having fun).
– What we should be thinking more about is how we can
make shopping inherently more social, rather than
cannibalising e-commerce sales with promotions just
to promote a different storefront.”
Markkinointitoimenpiteet tulisi johtaa potentiaalisten
asiakkaiden motiiveista. Ethän myisi hammasharjoja
metrossa?
51
Facebook-mainoksen laskeva tuotto
(diminishing returns) l. klikkideflaatio
“Not only do ads on Facebook have relatively low CTRs
compared with banner ads in general, but their
effectiveness wanes after just a few days. According to
Webtrends‟ analysis of over 11,200 advertising
campaigns on Facebook in 2009, the average CTR
HALVES within two days.
– Furthermore, the CTR continues to decline until it‟s so
low that Facebook removes the ad, effectively forcing
an advertiser to launch a new campaign.” (Johnson
2011)
Miksi?
52
Syynä mainosväsy (fatigue, burn)
“The quick rate of CTR decay is largely attributable to
the fact that the same ads are constantly displayed to
the same users. This contrasts with general Internet
search and display ads which are constantly served up
to plenty of new viewers – search engine users and
visitors to thousands of different websites – and can
therefore maintain higher CTRs for much longer time
periods.” (Johnson 2011)
toiston brändiarvo vs. klikkideflaatio
53
The death of f-commerce?
“GameStop, Gap Inc., J.C. Penney and Nordstrom have
all closed their Facebook storefronts over the past year.
This shouldn‟t be a surprise. While Facebook may be
the most visited website, with 845 million members,
consumers go there to hang out, not shop. Sucharita
Mulpuru, an analyst at Forrester Research, refers to this
as „like trying to sell stuff to people while they’re hanging
out with their friends at the bar.‟” (See Why 2012)
54
Epäsuoran monetisoinnin haaste
“Monetizing social networks through advertising has
been a challenge as the user‟s intent on a social
network is to communicate (with friends and family) and
the purchase intent is almost never there - leading to a
lower CTR and a lower CPC.” (Osborn 2009)
(…and lower demand from advertisers)
55
Googlen edut
”Google‟s ads are even better: Because the ads
are text-only, there’s a chance that users will
actually see them, rather than ignore them due to
banner blindness. Also, because the text is short,
Google ads force a focus on crisp and plain
content that might actually communicate something in
the second or two users typically allocate to reading
ads.” (Nielsen 2001)
– hakukonemainonnassa ei “sokeutta”?
– tekstimainos kommunikoi nopeasti
56
Kuitenkin intentio syntyy aina jostain…
“But long before typing „compare prices on nikon d100
cameras‟ into Google, that user has been exposed to a
lot of messages that have shaped and influenced their
intent. Moving the user down the purchase funnel (i.e.
from „cameras‟ to „nikon d100‟) creates value by
„generating intent‟ for nikon products over substitutes.”
57
Preferenssin ja intention ero: ratkaiseva
tekijä? (Chen 2007)
“…interest in a topic is different than having intent.
Having „skiing‟ on your profile is completely different
than searching for „ski tickets.‟ The latter means you‟re
ready to buy, whereas the former simply means that you
sometimes buy. This is GREAT for brand advertising,
but really doesn‟t help on the direct response CPM
formula.
Having high intent typically drives a higher conversion
rate (driving up the PPC) as well as driving up the CTR.
Having interest but not intent should theoretically be
better than nothing, but there might be other effects, like
having more „looky-loos‟ click on your ad just out of
interest, but not actually buy the product there.”
58
Demografia vai behaviorismi?
• Facebook-markkinointi (demografia) perustuu
luokitteluun, typologioihin ja yleistykseen (voi
silti toimia!)
• Google-markkinointi (intentio) perustuu intentioon,
preferensseihin ja odotuksiin (haasteellisempi)
• Mainonnan tavoite vaikuttaa myös kanavan
valintaan: brändi vai myynti? (search mode)
59
Loppupäätelmät
• Googlessa hakiessaan asiakkailla on intentio, he
ovat valmiimpia ostamaan
• Facebookissa ”ollaan”, ei aktiivisesti etsitä tuotteita
• Facebook mahdollistaa kuitenkin asiakkaan
sitouttamisen ja yhteisön rakentamisen (brand tribe,
brand community)
prominenssi ja relevanssi on tärkeitä kummassakin
käyttäjän näkökulmasta molempia palveluja tarvitaan,
käyttökonteksti vain on eri
60
Sosiaalinen vs. haku: tulevaisuus?
• Googlen algoritmi kehittyy tunnistamaan sosiaalisia
signaaleja (Twitter, FB-kommentit)
• toisaalta FB saattaa haluta rajoittaa Googlen pääsyä
dataan (walled garden –strategia)
61
The End.
