Conventions of the magazines

• All of the magazines have a main heading at the top.• The colours are bright and radiant. • Bold mastheads and contrasting colours.• Clear theme which anchors upon the image.• Secondary headlines about the content.• School/college logo• The language is usually formal for a school so its accurate.• The styles relate to youth.

Page 5: Media coursework prelim

How do they differ?

• They have individual fonts and magazine names and most school/college magazines have individual logos which trademark their magazines.

• They have Different themes which mostly reflect the seasons/topics etc.

• They use different techniques of persuasion• The colours used in both magazines are primary colours

which reflects the age range the magazines are aiming towards.

• The barcodes used on the magazines show professionalism.

The white background on the ‘DUB’ magazine looks lacklustre and unexciting whereas the ‘COLLEGE’ magazine has a unfocused forest has a background which relates to the college having a fresh and open feeling.

The ‘COLLEGE’ magazine links mainly to females regarding the appearance, on the other hand, the ‘DUB’ magazine is mainly associated with males regarding the colour scheme and appearance.

What makes the layout interesting?

Mise – en -scene• Lighting:- The lighting used in both magazines are

vivid and radiant which is eye-catching. The lighting in the ‘COLLEGE’ magazine looks more professional then the ‘DUB’ magazine because of the colours and the way it has been shot on the subject of lighting and posture.

• Hair & Makeup:- The hair styles and makeup used has a youthful look which is a normal look and style amongst students, they have used this style for the reason that it shows that the audience the magazine is aimed at is students.

• Setting:- As I said in the previous slide, the background of the ‘COLLEGE’ magazine gives a vibrant and spacious feel whereas on the ‘DUB’ magazine it has a bold, boring and white background which looks unprofessional and bland.
