Location

The location is very important in a film as it sets the scene and tells the audience the surrounding. In The Descent Sarah wakes up in a hospital bed the walks out on the hospital corridor and then runs away from the dark side of the corridor and end up on the light side of the corridor.

Costume, Hair and Make up Costume is also quite important as it should link up with the location. For example In the Descent Sarah is in a hospital so her costume is a hospital gown.

Make up Is used to show if some one is injured or just going out somewhere but in The Descent she has cuts and bruises and this is used to tell the audience what she has been going through.

The same of make up this also shows what the person is going through. In The Descent her hair is messy this shows that she has been through something bad (Car crash).

Movement and Acting

Movement is really important in films. In The Descent there are different types of movement for example Sarah gets out of the bed really quickly but also slows down when she gets to the corridor, but whens she sees the dark getting closers she starts to run. After this she meets Beth and drops to the floor. The Acting is also very good as my favorite example is when she drops on the floor and is very distraught.

Lighting and Colour

The lighting in films is one of the most important features as this helps the audience see and focus on one point of the film. For example the shot where Sarah’s daughters is blowing out the candles this provides the actual Colour and also the lighting as when she blows out the last candle it goes dark and blacks out. Another example of colour and lighting is that when she is running and it starts to go dark but when she hugs Beth it gets bright.

PropsProps are also used in films to either make the audience think what is going to happen or just make them think why am I looking at this?. The cake is a prop as this provides lighting for the shot. The oxygen breathing tube is also a prop as this helps her breath. The heart rate monitor is also a prop as this is the type of hospital equipment you would find in a hospital also this could symbols that she she dead inside.
