Corel Video Studio Pro X3 is a professional video editing software which enables you to create stunning videos with the professionally designed templates, smooth transitions and polished titles. I started by importing all my animated clips I had created on Adobe Flash CS5.

Video Files

These are the various video transitions the programme offers, they range from sliding transitions to diamond transitions. Transitions help to cut from one scene to the next more smoothly and to give a effect that link into the audio or music that accompany the video.

Video Transitions

The software also offers various preset titles that are animated and have different effects applied to them. For instance, there are some with multi colours and some that fly in from the side. To personalise the title all you have to do is type in your own text and no other effects or transitions to the title is needed.

Video Titles

These are some of the many special effects the software offers. The effects allow for scenes to be adjusted further, for a different visual effect to be applied and to give a different feel and look to scenes. For instance, the ‘active camera’ effect makes a scene seem as if it is moving constantly; like an active camera.

The programme also offers a wide range and variety of sounds that can be used in videos to add sound effects. For instance, one of the sound clips is of a door slamming shut, this could be used in a video to enhance the sound and to give it that professional touch.

Sound Clips

I started with a introduction clip of a countdown which creates an anticipating introduction for audiences. Moreover, I included a sound clip to accompany the countdown; builds up to the actual music video.

It was very easy importing video and sound files onto the timeline with the ‘drag and drop’ tool.

I added a title right after the countdown clip and chose colours for the text and I used the preset entrance style; the text would fly in from the side.

Using the song title and artists name at the start of a music video is a code and convention; audiences then have the song title and artists name memorised and can buy the song online or on CD.

I imported the first scene of the music video which was a animated heart that changed shape (see The Music Video Construction Animation slideshow for the process of creating the heart). I applied a ‘auto sketch’ special effect to it which makes is seem as if the scene is being drawn in pencil by hand; giving it an extra edge.

For this part of the music video I started with the original animation I created on Flash CS5 and then I added a kaleidoscope effect on the video editing software. Moreover, the effect gave it a unusual yet fantasy like feel, which added to the intensity of the dance music.

For this scene I used another heart animation I created on Flash CS5 and added a ‘colour shift’ effect which gave it extra vibrancy and colour which added a different feel.

Moreover, as I imported video files I made sure not to go out of sync with the music, so that the music and the video had a connection.

After I imported another animation clip which I created on Flash CS5 and then I added a cloud effect; it gave a mysterious feel and look.

To add to this, in the song the sound builds up to a climax and I wanted the scenes to do the same. I did this by cutting certain clips and adding specific effects that added a anticipating feel and linked into the dance music; vibrant and energetic colours.

The software offers various different preset video files, i used these two in-between the animated scenes I had created to attract a specific audience; audiences associated with the dance culture. Moreover, I imported the clips to the timeline by dragging and dropping them.

Timeline

Strobe lights are often used in clubs and dance shows.

For this scene I used a animation I created and imported it onto the timeline; after the previous clip. I used a swirl effect and the colour enhancer to the scene to add an intensity and a brighter colour; passionate and bright colours are a code and convention of dance music videos.

Various transition clips

Now I was beginning to import clips that started the storyline and gave a narrative to the music video. I gave it a ‘burn’ transition which linked in closely to the lyrics of the song.

The scene slowly transcended into another clip I created which is a skyline with moving clouds.

By dragging and dropping the transition into the timeline i could use it to my advantage; placing it wherever I wanted to.

Imported Video Files

This scene continues the narrative further on. I dragged and dropped the video file onto the timeline, also I added a ‘dissolve’ transition which smoothly cut into the next scene.

I never added any special effects to this scene because the animation I created was already how I wanted it to be.

For the next scene I zoomed into the scene to give another camera angle and to keep the audiences attention.

By resizing the actual video from the corners with the ‘transform tool’ I could add other angles. In this case, I started with a extreme long shot (showing the building and the character) and then finished with a mid shot (showing the character walk into the building).

For this part I used another fire animation I created and added an ‘Invert’ special effect which gave the video the opposite colours. It turned from a burning fire to an unusual blue fire; changing from a energetic look to a calm look.

I dragged the effect onto the clip so it would be replaced with the invert effect.

I used a fire clip and applied a ‘lens flare’ effect to it. I simply did this by dragging and dropping the effect onto the timeline. Also, by using the lens flare it felt as if the clip was being filmed and this was the feel that I wanted for this specific clip.

Page 17: Music Video Construction (Editing)

For another scene in the music video I used a cool fire video file which was a preset file on the software. I applied a invert effect to the file to create a different feel, it changes from the blue fire to a orange fire constantly.

Moreover, this helped move the video in motion with the music; moving in time with the dance beats of the music.

This is another scene in which I added text. The text accompanies the lyrics of the song and I made sure to place the text in time with the music; being sure that it wasn’t out of place. I dragged the text file onto the video file as an overlay so the text would appear on the actual video file.

Moreover, using text gives audiences a different visual from the video, keeping their attention and appeal.

Page 19: Music Video Construction (Editing)

For the exit of the music video I used an animated text file that I had created earlier on Flash CS5. Having the song title at the start and end of a music video is a code and convention; audiences can memorise the song title and buy it.

Moreover, after I dragged and dropped the video file I used a fade out at the end of the music video. Rather than the video just cutting off, it would fade out and leave the music video in the audiences minds.
