Music video pitch ideas
NATALIE LEWIS + OLIVER FAVELL
Da Vinci Riot Police – The song We chose this song as we felt it would enable
us to be creative and because there is no current video for the song; the variety of lyrics and beats will allow us to create a unique style and video
The song discusses themes of carrying on with what you believe in, even if the police are fighting against you. We want to take the ideas from the lyrics and incorporate them into a strong narrative which link to family hardships, friendship and not giving up
Narrative Our video will follow the story of several people
who are experiencing tough family home lives and decide they will run away and meet with each other; in order to move on with their lives
This will take place in several locations, focusing around the area of Weston-super-mare whereby we will film in several houses, along the beach and streets and possibly along the famous pier
The performance will also link in with the narrative
Performance The performance will begin with the artist sitting on
a sofa, playing a guitar and lip syncing to the song. This will be cut in between the narrative segments where the other characters are struggling with their home lives
The artist will then move out into the garden where he will walk along, still singing and playing, which connotes the idea of being free
The video will end with the artist and characters looking out to the sunset, which will link the narrative and performance together
Actors
We’ve selected a few actors, that we know live in the area of filming and have significant acting experience, as we want our video to look professional. This will also make it easier to organise times for them to travel to locations as they will already be close by. It will be necessary to film this out of school times as the actors and the film crew currently attend school
The artist we’re planning to use has family ties to the film crew, so it is unlikely he will let us down. Also, he is currently in a band and plays several instruments such as the guitar, which is vital to the code and conventions of George Ezra’s music
Camera angles From the genre research, we have decided to use some of the
typical conventions of camera angles in the video so that the genre is easily recognised by the audience
Some of these conventions included:Panning around characters (including the artist)Zooming in and out on charactersSeveral close ups on artist so it’s made clear to audience who the performer isTracking shots that will follow the narrative along with the characters
Editing
We would like to include a graphic match to illustrate the link with the narrative and performance aspects of the video
We also want to use fade in/out/to black effects as a lot of Ezra’s own videos and videos of that genre use this
The editing will also be on beat to the music in order for it to flow well, as well as there being fast cuts during narrative elements to exaggerate the changes in story
