My Morning Jacket are not too “famous” however their music is known to many and has reached their listeners

since the 90’s. My Morning Jacket was formed in 1998 in Louisville, Kentucky by singer, songwriter and guitarist Jim

James along side his cousin Johnny Quaid (guitar) Tom Blankenship (Bass) and J. Glenn (drums).

The band made their debut “The Tennessee Fire” on Jun 18 with Darla Records in 1999 with Danny Cash joining the

band as Keyboardist a year later.

As the band developed they maintained a tight schedule throughout the 2000’s touring with many established bands

such as The Doves, Foo Fighters and Guided by Voices. During this time they also changed to major label RCA/ATO Records for the 2003 release of It Still Moves, which is said

to be one of their “most praised albums to date”.

Quaid and Cash announced their departure from the band in January 2004 although the band found Bo Koster and Carl Broemel to continue in their place and carried on to

tour as a five piece.

THE BANDS DEVELOPMENT

 In 2005 the band produced a record called Z and it was musically very different than there works before hand as the album did not have a heavy reverb blanketing the sound allowing room to show My Morning Jackets experimental side introducing reggae textures and synthesizers.

MIKE + THE MECHANICS, "SILENT

WILLIAM BELL, "EVERYBODY LOVES A WINNER"

"Bell sums up one of life's truths: 'Everybody loves a winner, but when you lose, you lose alone,'" says James. "I don't think that statement is completely true - real friends and family are there for each other through thick and thin - but when I hear this song it reminds me of them... the people who really matter. It's also all gussied up in near perfect production, sounding as soft as our kitten's little head when we give her a kiss, and sung by an angel."

Jim james reflected upon this influence;

“All of our records have had elements of soul and reggae, and if you go back and listen, you'll see those there. Not as pronounced as they are now, but that's more of a production thing. I've always personally been really varied in my musical taste. I've always loved everything: metal, country, hip-hop, R&B;, rock, you name it. If it's good, I love it” - JJ
