Classroom Enviorement

• Toddler rooms must have room for the kids to play, eat, nap, and learn

• There must be a lot of open space for them to get around safetly, as they might not be great walkers yet

• Everything must be appropriate height for them to reach

• The room should be colorful, but not over stimulating

• Their art should be displayed all around

Block Area

A large open space is needed to give them room to play

and build with blocks.

I would include a large mirror for them to be able to look at

themselves and what they are building.

Kitchen Play

My toddler room would include a kitchen area

with real kitchen things like pots and pans,

brooms, etc. for them to be able to explore,

and play.

Play Structures in the classroomfor Social skills, & motor skills development

Sensory Area

Toddler room would have at least 1 or 2 sensory tables for the children to explore,

and work work on fine motor skills like scooping, grabbing

etc.

The materials in the table would be changed on a weekly basis if not more

often.

Dining Area/ Tables

Table for meal times, art lessons.

Should be at a height appropriate for their age,

I like this one, because the chairs scoot into the table, and the chairs have a belt to secure them without having it be a bucket seat or high chair.

Changing Table

Toddler room should include an area for diaper changes as not

all toddlers will be potty trained.

Steps like this are helpful in getting the kids up to the

appropriate height.

Table should be positioned so as to allow the teacher to still keep an eye on the other students.

Outdoor Environments

Outdoor Environments

• Outdoor environments should be safe and secure. Children should be observable at all times, in all areas

• Large open spaces are good to allow them to run, and play

• Equipment should be appropriate to their size, such as tricycles, slides, swings

• Variety of areas like gardens, sand, grass, play structures ensure that the children can always find something interesting to do and offer many opportunities for learning individually and as a class.

Play Structures

Should be plastic to keep from getting to hot

Size appropriate for toddlers to ensure

safety

Colorful and inviting

Over a soft surface

Sand box/ Area

Sand is a great sensory material

Kids can dig, build, add water and

much more

Page 14: My toddler environment

Garden area/ Natural Area

Gardens are useful for teaching kids about living things, and how to care for them, they also give them a chance to do things like water plants, and search for bugs

These have been a few examples of what I think are important in a toddler environment and what

I would like in my classroom
