Implications for Nation
Nationwide, a student gives up on school every 29 seconds. That adds up to one million American dropouts per year.
Mississippi Department of Education, 2008
Implications for Nation
Dropouts earn about $9,200 less per year than high school graduates. Over a typical 30-
year career, a dropout can earn potentially $276,000 less
than graduates.
Mississippi Department of Education, 2008
Implications for Nation
Unless high schools are able to graduate their students at higher rates, more than 12 million students will drop out during the course of the next decade. The result will be a loss to the nation of $3 trillion.
Alliance for Excellent Education, January 2007
Personal Implications
Studies show students that dropout are more than twice
as likely as high school graduates to slip into
poverty in a single year.
Mississippi Department of Education, 2008
Personal Implications
Dropouts are 10 times more likely than high school graduates to
go to jail.
Mississippi Department of Education, 2008
