New Hampton School's "Project Week"at New England's Kurn Hattin Homes

Westminster, VT, March 3 - 7

Kids Helping Kids: 2014

A graduate of Harvard, pastor of Berkeley Temple in Boston, MA, and native of Westminster, VT,

the Reverend Charles Albert Dickinson had an idea.

Kurn Hattin Homes: a Place of History

He believed young children in need or orphans could be cared for . . .

in a nurturing rural setting . . .

rather than the urban childcare institutions which existed at the time.

On August 18, 1894 the Articles of Association were signed,

and New England Kurn Hattin Homes was established.

Dickinson's dream of creating a haven for boys and girls who needed

a secure place to live,

to go to school,

to grow up,

to become happy,

and productive adults . . .

became a reality!

What is Kurn Hattin today?

Given what we now know about this unique place, how can we help?

Essential Question:

The United States has changed much since 1894, but given all we now have as a nation, why are there still so many children in need 120 years after Kurn Hattin Homes was established?
