In the summer of 1929, a race for the sky happened on the island Manhattan.
A man named Chrysler was coming second until he put a small spire on to the top of his building. It became the Chrysler Builder and was the tallest building in the world. It was 318 m tall, which is 18 m taller than the Eureka Tower. But the Empire State Building became the tallest after another 4 months.
The Chrysler building is the most decorated building in the world.Mr Chryslerwanted his building to look like his cars.
more than 1200 km of Electrical conductor wire was used in the construction of the sky scraper. Thats as long as the distance from Melbourne to Port Macquarie!

in 1945 , a B-25 bomber on its way to Newark airport in new jersey crashed into the 7 thfloor ofthe Empire state building.Amazingly, the building only suffered minor damage.
