  • 9. Honours level: 1 year not renewable Masters level: 2 years - renewable Doctoral level: 3 years renewable Annual Progress Report(APR) to be completed by the student and the supervisor Renewal of funding is based on satisfactory progress and recommendation by supervisor.

All Nationalities (Innovation) open to all fields of study SA citizens only (Scarce Skills) - field of study (Accounting, Actuarial Science, Auditing, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Demography, Geology, Information Systems, Mathematical Science, Statistics, Transportation Studies and Tourism.) SA citizens (DAAD-NRF) SA citizens and SA permanent resident (RSES) Focus Areas: - Cleaner fossil fuel development, including clean coal technologies; - Renewable energy(bioenergy including bio-fuels, solar energy, wind energy,etc) - Energy impact on the environment; - Energy for socio economic development - Energy system planning and modelling; - Energy policy research.

SA citizens (SKA U/G and Honours) Focus Areas: - BSc degree, majoring in Physics and Mathematics, - BSc Hons in Astronomy/Astrophysics majored in Physics and Mathemiatics at the undergraduate level. - BEng in Electronic Engineering ONLY. SKA Masters and Doctoral level South African citizens, and permanent residents of South Africa, who wish to complete a relevant PhD or MSc degree at a South African university. Citizens of Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya and Ghana, who wish to complete a relevant PhD or MSc degree at a South African university. South African citizens and citizens of Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya and Ghana, who wish to complete a relevant PhD or MSc degree at a university in an SKA SA partner country (Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya and Ghana).
  • 12. Applicants that already hold a degree at a level for which they are applying are not eligible.. Full time enrolled during the tenure of award No full time salaried employment
  • 13. Scholarship must not be held simultaneously with a bursary/scholarship from any other government or NRF source or NRF administered source. Scholarship-holders are allowed to hold non-binding supplementary grants or emoluments to half the value of the NRF award or should the host university have an institutional capped value, the award can be supplemented to the university capped value for the level of study. Scholarship-holders must not hold full-time employment during the tenure of the award. Scholarship-holders will be allowed to undertake a maximum of 12 hours of teaching, tutorials , assistance or demonstration duties per week.

The following selection criteria are taken into consideration The award of scholarship to a student will be based on past, current and potential academic performance The academic merit Promise of research ability Leadership prizes Feasibility and merit of the applicants research project proposal Reference reports from the supervisor and referees.
