ORGANISING AND EDITING OF

FOOTAGE

Organising the footage■ Our initial first idea for the editing process of the music video was to

match up our storyboard with the footage from filming. We took each storyboard frame and matched up the footage that we had filmed in place of this. This helped us identify any footage we had missed filming during the filming process and select ‘on the fly’ footage which we could use in place of missing footage. We chose not to follow the

Editing process■ For the editing process we used Adobe

Premiere Pro CS6 to complete the post production of out music video. The footage that we had from out filming was far longer than we needed and therefore our first step was to cut down the footage using the ‘razor cut’ tool. This meant the shots matched the length of each line of lyric we wanted it to be present for. In order to have shots jump to another in time for a song beat we used the sound bar to identify the highest volume of sound to have jump cuts occur upon it. The sound bar’s dynamic peaks served as a visual presentations of the song beats the jump cuts were planned on.

Using an effect: Overlay

Above is an establishing, out of focus shot of Oxford Street however the slow pace of the shot didn’t have the intended effect we wanted from the music video.

We therefore used an overlay effect on the medium shot of Haleema by placing the two videos parallel on the video bar so that the shots were overlaying at the same time. We then selected the video we wanted to become the effect (the footage in the video 4 bar) and in the effect controls bar selected the opacity blend ‘Overlay’.

Using an effect: OverlayThe final product of the effect was an overlay of the London city footage over the newspaper ripping scene. The bright lights of the city contrasted heavily against the dark background of the newspaper shot as they’re two contrasting concepts: light vs dark. This accented and highlighted newspaper headlines which single out the isolation of Muslims and conflict – our music video theme.

Issues when editingIssues we faced when editing was the length and size of the footage that we recorded. Many of the files were very large due to the high definition quality of the footage and this meant that footage took long periods of time to render. As you can see from the first screenshot, we used large numbers of short jump cuts in the production of our music video and this meant we had to use lots of large lengths of footage to break down. To overcome this issue we rendered whole files and moved them to the end of the editing workshop area so that we could use the footage that was rendered later on. This saved us a vast amount of time during the editing process as all of the footage was fully rendered for use later on in the editing process. As you can see from the final screenshot, the rendered files were available to use.
