2. 23rd APRIL NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN FESTIVAL 23rd April,1920 is the opening date of Turkish Grand National Assembly and the date that Turkish people declared their sovereignty. Atatrk decided to celebrate this date as a festival on 23rd April,1924 and 5 years later, on 23rd April,1929,Atatrk gifted this festival to children. Since 1929,it has been celebrated as a children festival, too. 3. 23rd APRIL NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN FESTIVAL Every year,it is celebrated in all over the country by the participations of children coming from neralf 40 different countries. 4. ACTIVITIES IN OUR COUNTRY Solemn ceremonies and childrens festivals take place throughout Turkey on National Sovereignty and Childrens Day, held on April 23 each year. Children take seats in the Turkish Parliament and symbolically govern the country for one day. 14. INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES The 23rd April Childrens Festival a childrens festival which was gifted to Turkish children by Mustafa Kemal Atatrk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, to mark the opening of the Assembly. The festival has been celebrated internationally since 1979 with the activities arranged by Turkish Radio and Television Corporation . The Festival intends to contribute creation of a world where children can live peacefully by developing sentiments of fraternity, love and friendship. 15. INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES As usual,hundreds of children from all over the world are going to come Turkey for the festival.They come together for peace and friendship. 16. INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES Every year nearly 40 countries join the festival.Since 1979, 20000 children from 90 different countries has joined the festival. They come here for the festival and represent their cultures by performing some examples of their traditional folk dances, games, songs and so on. 17. INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES From 1979 to 2000, celebrations were performed in the capital city Ankara. In the following years, celebrations took place in Turkeys various major cities such as zmir, stanbul and Antalya.This year the festival is going to be celebrated in GAZANTEP. 18. INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES Lithuania,Hungar y and Romania come and participate the festival regularly. Spain last attended in 2012,Poland,in 2011 and Greece,in 2009. 19. RAMADAN FEAST 20. RAMADAN Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is a time of fasting for the Islamic people. Each day during this month, Muslims all over the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, as well as participating in anything that is ill-natured or excessive; from dawn until the sun sets. Fasting is intended to educate the Muslim in spirituality, humility and patience. It is a time to cleanse the soul, focus attention on God, and put into practice selflessness Morning Azan Evening Azan 21. RAMADAN The usual practice is to have a pre-fast meal (suhoor) before dawn . 22. RAMADAN It is a common practice for Muslims to break their fast at sunset with dates (iftar), following the custom of Prophet Muhammad. This is followed by the sunset prayer, which is followed by dinner. Since Ramadan emphasizes community aspects and since everyone eats dinner at the same time, Muslims often invite one another to share in the Ramadan evening meal. 23. RAMADAN During Ramadan healthy people fast.The people who are ill and have some other problems dont have to fast.During this month people help poor. 24. RAMADAN FEASTAfter Fasting for 30 days,Ramadan Feast comes.It is for 3 days.All schools and state institutions are closed for three days.People visit their relatives,neighbours,elders and have fun together.This feast is also special and exciting for children because they kiss their elders hands and get sugar or some other presents from them. 25. RAMADAN FEAST The most important thing is that during Ramadan,there is always a peaceful and friendly atmosphere.
