1.ARFF is Airport Familiarization

• PNS occupies 1400 acres (all Fenced)

• PNS has 4 runways 17-35 and 8-26

• PNS has 4 taxiways– Alpha– Bravo– Charlie– Delta

• PNS has a # of Feeders that connect runways and taxiways

4. ARFF is Communication• Ground Control 121.9

– Movement area (taxiways and runways)

– Nonmovement (every thing else on the runway except runways and taxiways)

• Tower control 119.9– Aircraft departing and arriving

within 15 miles of the airfield.

• Tracon (terminal radar control)– Aircraft greater than 15 miles out.

6. Knowledge of Tactics and Strategies

• Apparatus standby positions– Predetermined Position on the Runway– Upwind – Preferably primary apparatus at L1 position

facing the pilot / Secondary at R1 facing the pilot.

• Proper selection of Agent

7. ARFF is Knowing the Airport Emergency Plan

• CFR Title 14 Part 139 (FAR)- Class C Airport (Grass -A, Atlanta -D )– Aircraft ( at least 126 ft but less than 159 ).– Three ARFF apps. Capable of 3000 gal water /500lb dry chem.

And 190 gals of AFFF 1 app caring 500 lb clean agent (halatron).

• NFPA 1003 - Airport Fire Fighter Qualification.• Guidelines for Handling various types of emergencies.
