Actual Photographs
LO4 – By Rachael Collinson
Li:le hand.
I like this photograph because I
spent ages trying to get both the leaf in shot but
sAll would be able to see
the tree stump in the background,
aEer spending 9
minutes trying to get
the photograph
right I did and then decided
the photo looked be:er without the
tree stump in focus.
In this photograph is a small tree that is trying to grow among the taller trees.
The smaller trees leaf kind of looks like a hand holding up a twig to the camera, as if it was offering the twig to the viewer.
The tones are very earthy which shows that it is very close to the earth, which also give you the feeling that we are close to the ground.
I used depth of field effecAvely in this photograph because the foreground is sharp and focused and the background is blurred. In order to get the perfect shot I took 23 shots of this leaf messing around with the exposure, aperture, shu:er speed and ISO to get a perfect photograph. Some of the pictures I took were awful but I knew that I would be able to get a perfect shot and did not stop unAl I was happy with the shot I had taken.
The leaf is a different shade of green which is very vibrant and makes it stand out.
DecapitaAon In this picture there is a very earthy shade to it which gives us the impression that it is close to the ground.
The tree stump has a crack in it which shows that it is old and warn and that it has been neglected by people.
The trees in the background look half dead which gives us the impression that our technology may be improving but we sAll need to remember the simple things in life like trees creaAng oxygen.
You can see patches of sun seeping through the trees and it makes the photograph look magical and mysAcal.
The name decapitaAon came to my mind because you get the sense the tree had recently been cut down and that all the other trees were sad they had lost a comrade.
In the air there was a strong smell of sap, I tried to get this across in my picture because it was almost like the trees were crying over the fact that they had had another tree to mankind. They are all packed so closely together as if they are planning something, trying to get back at mankind for killing so many of there brothers and sisters for there own selfish needs.
Prickle
Naming this picture prickle came to me because when I was trying to take the photograph, I was stabbed many Ames by the trees prickles and I wanted to incorporate how sharp the prickles look in the photograph with the name of the picture.
In some ways the picture looks like a man holding a pine cone in his leE hand. He is holding the pine cone close to his body because it clearly means something to him and would like to protect it. This is like what the tree does it grows pinecones high up so people and animals cant grab and eat them. The branch going down to the right looks like his other arm this arm is spread out almost like the tree wants a hug and wants to be loved but nobody wants to hug it because it is prickly.
The sun is coming thought the prickles shining on the pine cone which makes the pine cone look angelic and like the tree ands to keep it safe at all costs.
The depth of field is shallow which means it shows the foreground and blurs the background. In the background there is a lot of green this was the aim because if I had shot the photograph from another side there would have been a path in or dead trees which would give the picture a totally different feel.
The fact that only two pine cones are in focus gives us the feeling that these are the only two leE.
A bush among the hills.
Although you can see other bushes in the background this is the only one in focus which gives us the feeling that this bush is different to all the other bushes on the hill top. Furthermore this bush has pink flowery bits on it which makes us think that it doesn’t just care about surviving it cares about how it looks and wants to make itself stand out from the rest of the bushes on the hill.
There is greenery in the background is intesAnal because if I had shot the picture In the opposite direcAon I would have got dead trees and a path where as, the way I took the photograph hides the path and makes it not very noAceable and at first glance the viewer wont realize it is there because it is not prominent.
When I went to take my photographs I choose to have an overcast day this was because the sun would have given this picture a different meaning, if the sun was shining it would have made it look happy and not morbid whereas I wanted a photograph that showed how sad the plant was because it was the same as all the other plants on the hill.
Lost in the city Hear we see a flower that is all alone on a pavement, this gives the impression that the flower is all alone and is lonely.
The depth of field is shallow so the background is blurred and the foreground is sharp. Furthermore the background is blurred but not completely so you can sAll tell there are bushes and cars in the background.
The flower is dying so it looks like it is sad because it is on its own.
The line going horizontally across the picture matches up with the rule of thirds lines, this makes the picture look more balanced because if I had not matched it up the picture may look out of place and strange. It also acts as a li:le barrier keeping the flower out of the world and away from socializaAon.
The fact that not all of the picture is in focus makes you wonder weather the flower is in contact with world or not is it just in its own li:le world.
On the picture there is moss growing in the cracks. In the bo:om right corner the moss looks like it is crawling out of the gap trying to get to the flower to make it into one of them.
