ThE School of EnginEEring

Created in 1991, ISTIA trains engineering students to meet companies’ expectations. Thanks to a strong partnership between the school and companies, students enjoy a thorough knowledge of the working field at each stage of the 5-year program. A 2-year preparatory program gives students a scientific, technical and personal background which is fundamental for enrolling in one of the three engineering programs of study.

A 3-yEAr EnginEEring dEgrEE courSE

1st year: a scientific core focuses on industrial engineering with an opening towards personal development.

2nd & 3rd years: two years of specialization in 1 of the 3 programs. Highly-specialized scientific skills and industrial professional know-how are taught in close partnership with the industrial environment.

• AutomationandComputerEngineering–AGI The main focus is on Software Development, Industrial Automation, LAN,

Industrial Supervision, Traceability, Real-Time and Embedded Systems, Robotics and Virtual Reality… The Automation and IT program aims at giving two professional skills. The study of various subjects will allow the student to master the computer tools as well as those necessary for designing and implementing automated systems.

• InnovationEngineering-idi The main focus is on the management of innovative projects including

technical, and scientific skills, the development of new products or innovative services from design to achievement. The Innovation Engineering program aims at educating future engineers to be able to manage teams dedicated to innovative projects and intangible assets.

• QualityandReliabilityEngineering-QSF The main focus is on Quality Management, Dependability and Reliability,

Industrial Processes, Software Security and Services. The Quality Management, Reliability and Reliability program gives theoretical knowledge and technical skills which can be efficiently applied to a wide range of industrial processes.

the control systems and Information technology program aims to provide two professional skills, allowing students to master both computer engineering tools and the design of automated systems. We particularly focus on Software Development, Industrial Automation, Industrial Monitoring Systems, Real-Time Embedded Systems, Robotics, Human-Machine Interface and Virtual and Augmented Reality. Our goal is to train engineers through theoretical and practical courses, collaborative projects, and long duration internships.

Strong skills in software development, programming languages, computer technologies and human-computer interaction.

Ability to integrate information technology in automated processes (scada systems, communication networks,...), in electronic solutions (embedded systems, intelligent sensors,...).

Administration of computer systems (security, etc.) and databases.

Ability to design, develop and evaluate innovative virtual reality applications.

Ability to interact, share, explain as a project manager.

the plurality of skills prepares graduates for various jobs such as:

Developing client/server applications, intranet/internet projects, or databases.

Designing and optimizing industrial processes and control systems.

Designing real-time systems, embedded systems, mechatronic systems and virtual / augmented reality applications.

Taking the responsibility for automation projects, monitoring systems, and developments.

The International Master in Systems Engineering and Project Management (ISMP in French) is a program intended for foreign graduate students or professionals following in-house training. The program relies on the 2nd and 3rd year of the Engineering School.

the main objective is to train engineers able to implement methods and tools for optimizing design, development and operation of industrial systems in order to improve the productivity, efficiency and profitability of the firm taking into account the human and environmental factors.

The program focuses on:

• Engineering Sciences • Firm Management

• Social Science • Projects

• Internship

The specificity of the Master lies in the possibility to give each student an opportunity to fine-tune his/her initial training and professional plans. A teacher will guide students throughout their training in order to help them in the choice of their career.

Baccalaureate degree/Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Physics, Chemistry, Electronics or IT. Mathematics and Business majors with a substantial number of electives in Physics and Mathematics are also acceptable.

The program totals 4 semesters composed of compulsory subjects and electives.

ISTIA hosts:

• The LARIS, Laboratoire Angevin de Recherche en Ingénierie des Systèmes

Up to 80 researchers and PhD students work on Information Science and Communication Technologies, particularly in the Industrial Systems Engineering sector.

research work at IstIa is internationally recognized whether it is:

• Fundamental research published in International Journals notably IEEE, organization of conferences and participation in conferences worldwide.

• Transfer applications, identified through various local, national, European, etc. private contracts.

the LarIs

The LARIS is a laboratory of the University of Angers hosted by ISTIA, it comprises researchers from the different faculties including the Faculty of Science, the School of Medicine and the IUT.

LARIS is composed of 3 inter-connected teams:

• Dynamic systems and Optimization

Dynamic Systems and Optimization – Robotics

• Information, signal, Image and Life sciences

Signals and Complex Processes – Color and Multi-component Imaging – Biomedical Imaging – Virtual Reality

• Dependability and Decision support

Experiencing the world is the goal of ISTIA’s degree programs. Today’s engineer

is a world citizen, which is why the ISTIA has such a strong focus on International

Relations. ISTIA has a long experience in welcoming foreign researchers and the

research laboratory has had long standing relations and even partnerships worldwide.

ISTIA’s policy is to become a think-tank for its students.

It all starts in the 1st year of the Engineering curriculum when the student must carry

out a 3-month internship abroad either in a company or in a research laboratory. The

main objective is to experience life abroad and come back with a different outlook on

how the world works.

The International Office of ISTIA is closely related to the International Office of

the University of Angers, in order to strengthen or set up new partnerships.

The International Office mainly emphasizes:

• setting up formalized relations on an educational basis, developing co-operations

with foreign schools or universities in order to receive foreign students and

reciprocally send ISTIA students.

• bringing logistical support for the students planning to complete an internship abroad

• exporting the knowledge and the know-how of the school in terms of educational

programs
