Sources of Noise PollutionTransportation systems are the main source of noise

pollution in urban areas.

Construction of buildings, highways, and streets cause a lot of noise, due to the usage of air compressors, bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, and pavement breakers.

Industrial noise also adds to the already unfavorable state of noise pollution.

Loud speakers, plumbing, boilers, generators, air conditioners, fans, and vacuum cleaners add to the existing noise pollution.

Effects of noise pollutionGenerally, problems caused by noise pollution

include stress related illnesses, speech interference, hearing loss, sleep disruption, and lost productivity.

Rise in blood pressurePhysical development of fetous.Reduce concentration.Causes serious mental disorders.

Remedial measuresPlanting treesRegular serving of automobiles.Building can be designed with suitable noise

absorbing materials for the walls, window and sealing

Proper lubrication and maintains of machines.Workers should provided with ear plugs for

hearing protection.Factories and industries should located far from

residential area.

Page 9: pollution - Noise pollution

How to control noise pollution? The source of the noise must me reducedThe path of transmission of sound must be

stopped and receiver of noise must be safe guarded.

A general awareness programs to educate the people must be done.

Legal laws must be established and observed to prevent noise pollution.

Role of individuals in preventing the degradation of the quality of environmentReduce air pollution by driving less or by

good driving habits.Waste minimization.Educate citizens about wise use of water and

water resources.Recycling of Mobil phones.Sign up to renewable energy supplier.Use organic food and fertilizers.Buy cotton products such as clothes, bags and

shoes in ecofriendly way.

Use safer chemicals in labs.Use rechargeable batteries and electronic

items.Use less harmful detergents in your home

and at work place.Academic institutions should offer courses

such as environmental studies, management etc.
