Production Companies

What do they do? • Production companies are responsible for the financial

fundraising for the production itself. The company looks over the film when it is an idea of completion.

• They deal with the producing of staff, organizing the actors/singers/dancers. They also deal with producing of marketing, budgeting, scheduling and scripting.

• They provide the equipment in order to make the production/film, and are also responsible if anything went wrong in the film.

• There are lots of different aspects to a production company, camera crew, make up, wardrobe, directors, actors and the producers themselves.

Logos.

Why? • The reason we chose these logos is because we felt they fitted

with our genre ‘teen drama’ well. The logos of each production company had connotations of calmness- the opposite to a teen drama, this then created contrast and maybe some sort of comic relief before the movie had even started.

• We also decided to look at not very big companies, ones of small popularity. We did this because of how small our film opening/ film would have been if it were sent to a film company and these are the kinds of producers we would be working with. This felt necessary.

• We then went on to make our own production company and logo, and stuck to the theme of calmness and a bubbly, water like feel. We named our production company HMKB Productions because it included all the groups initials in and was a good way to make us all properly involved in our film opening.

What does a distributor do? • A film distributor is responsible for sending out

the film into the world and allowing the audiences to watch the film. They decide where and when the film will be played out and also promote the film with use of advertising.

• They decide how many copies of the film to make and what cinemas/ other companies to sell it to.

• Once the cinema shows the movie a payment is decided and the movie is sent back to the distributors.

Why them? • We chose the distribution company we did because we knew

it would be low budget and thought a lot about finance and how we would afford it.

• We knew that it would show our film a lot and due to advertising etc. it would be watched by a lot of audience members.

• In the past Focus Features have distributed the film ‘One Day’ which was released August 9th 2011 and turned out to be a great hit with the audience. Although we knew how much effort and money went into producing a distributing this film, we took in to account the amount of viewers we would receive. We thought it would be quite well suited to our film and decided to go with Focus Features because of this.

Funding?

• Our film would have been funded through great sponsorships, advertising and fundraising of all sorts. We would have needed support from other production companies and the public.

• We could have created apps, and websites in order to get the public excited for the release of the film.
