Eligibility dates to remember:
Transitional Kinder: 5 years old between September 2 through December 2, 2010
Kindergarten: 5 years old by September 1, 2010
First Grade: 6 years on or before September 1, 2010

New Attendance Boundaries
Attendance areas for almost all schools were redrawn and approved by Board
New boundaries take effect in 2015-16
No school closures
Students do not have to change the school they currently attend
Check maps on PUSD’s web site, Enrollment & Boundaries tab. Click on: School Locator
Parents can choose any school with space through annual Open Enrollment
Important Changes for 2015-16
Some Key Boundary Changes
Don Benito and Norma Coombs become neighborhood schools
Some of Blair’s attendance area now aligns with Pasadena High School
Middle schools, except Eliot, align with one high school
Field and San Rafael are not neighborhood schools: they are permit-only dual language immersion program schools
Field and San Rafael no longer have attendance areas, but they do have “neighborhood preference” zones

1.There will be two separate lotteries this year and there will no longer be any wait lists
2. A student who registers during a phase of Open Enrollment is pre-enrolled for ‘15-16 and may not participate in any other phase

Sibling Registration
Brothers and sisters residing with students currently enrolled at school on a permit
Siblings of students currently attending a school that will not be the family’s school of residence next year
Siblings must attend same campus in 2015-16
Priority registration is done at the school-child is pre-enrolled and may not participate in any other phase of Open Enrollment
If siblings are not registered during this phase sibling status is forfeited

Neighborhood Preference
Reserve 50% of the open seats for students living in “neighborhood preference” area
These seats go through lottery first and “x number” are filled with students living in the neighborhood
If there are more neighborhood preference students than open seats those students will go through the “regular” lottery
Field and San Rafael are becoming “wall-to-wall” dual language immersion (San Rafael in 2 years; Field in 3 years)

Employee Preference
PUSD employees apply online at the same time residents apply
Full-time monthly employees are offered 10% of projected spaces
Any employee spaces not assigned will be added to projections for the second lottery

General Open Enrollment-Timeline After Applying
February 20, 2015-Notification
Following a lottery, placement notification will be posted online and mailed to families’ homes
February 23-March 6, 2015-Registration1. Parent/guardian must go to the site accepted
with notice of acceptance and submit all required registration documents to enroll
2. The seat will be forfeited if not registered during this time frame
3. Once registered, cannot apply in Late Phase

o On April 28, 2015 Open Enrollment ends for the upcoming school year
o No waitlists are maintained either centrally or by the school sites

Out-of-District Students Applying
Open Enrollment is for residents of PUSD: Pasadena, Sierra Madre and Altadena
PUSD does accept students from other school districts based on Board Policy 5117
Non-residents interested in PUSD programs submit Applications of Interest March23-27
Once PUSD students are placed the District offers non-resident students enrollment options
