One reason could be that if you select (check) references from a page and then move to the next page, the selections on the first page are not saved. Using ‘My List’ allows you to gather references from multiple pages and put them in one place for printing, exporting or generating a reference list…..

Why would you use ‘My List’?

Or, you might be viewing a folder that has a lot of references (more than what are displaying on a single page), but you only want to print a few of the references and they are on different pages. You can put them in ‘My List’ and then print them out.

Or, perhaps you have some references that you want to export to give to a colleague and the references are in multiple folders….instead of exporting each folder separately, you can place them in ‘My List’ for exporting.

You add references to ‘My List’ from any view or search results. There is always an ‘Add to My List’ button to the left of the folder drop-down.

Select the references you want to add to ‘My List’ by checking the box next to the reference, then click ‘Add to My List’.RefWorks tells you that the references were successfully added to ‘My List’.

Now let’s choose some references from a specific folder. From the ‘View‘ area choose ‘Folder’ and then choose the folder you want to open.

Check the references you want to add to ‘My List. Click ‘Add to My List’. RefWorks tells you that the references were successfully added to ‘My List’.

Now we want to include all references by the author Christer Larsson. Go to ‘Search’ and then ‘Lookup by Author’.

Click on the name of the author from the list

Check the references you want to add to ‘My List. Click ‘Add to My List’. RefWorks tells you that the references were successfully added to ‘My List’.

A list of references by that author will be displayed on the page.

Another way of choosing all the references on a page is to choose the ‘All in List’ option from the ‘References to Use’ area.

To see all the references you have placed into the ‘My List’ folder, go to ‘View’ and then ‘My List’.

Remember, ‘My List’ is a temporary folder. Any references added here will still remain in their original location and once you log out of your RefWorks session, your ‘My List’ will be empty.

There’s a ‘My List’ option in the Bibliography area.

My List is an option for formatting a bibliography from a list of references.
