THE PLACENTAThe placenta has several functions in development of the
human embryo.All through the period of pregnancy the placenta’s job is to
1. feed and nourish the foetus 2. Supply oxygen to the fetus – gas exchange
3. The foetus also has its wastes taken away through the umbilical cord and the placenta (disposing of toxic waste
is very important). Without it the fetus would not survive.
