It stretches from the City of Salzburg along the Austrian Alpine Foreland and the Northern Limestone Alps to the DachsteinMountains.

It spanns the federal states of Upper Austria, Salzburg, and Styria.

The main river of the region is the Traun, a right tributary of the Danube.

The Dachstein Mountains are a mountain range in the Alps.

The term is a collective name used by the Austrian Alpine Club in categorizing the Eastern Alps.

The highest point of the Dachstein is HoherDachstein with 2,995 m.

contains 13,000 m³ ice at 5,000 m² surface

in some parts of the cave, (Tristan Dome) the ice thickness reaches 20 m

discovered in 1897 by Peter Gamsjäger

guiding tours through the ice cave since 1912

1928 cave was lit by electricity for the first time.

Ice cave can also be visited in summer. Highlights of the cave are the Ice Chapel and the Gralsburg.

Traunstein is the highest mountain on the east bank of Traunsee in the district of Gmunden,Austria

it is 1691 metres high

Its distinctive silhouette is visible from a great distance

it is often called a guardian of the Salzkammergut.

Hallstatt is a pretty well-known village all over the world

It’s located between the Hallstätter See (lake) and the mountains (Alpen)

the old salt- mine, which is the cause of its name (hall=salt)

Karner, the bonehouse, where the inhabitants keep the decorated skulls of their predecessors, because the cemetery is too small.

is extremely picturesque due the large number of magnificent buildings from the time of the monarchy

once has been a meeting place for aristocrats and artists

For 60 years Emperor Franz Joseph came here each summer, establishing a tradition the effects of which are still felt in the town today

“Lederhose” and “Dirndl”

Leather pants and the traditional dress called “Dirndl” are typical Austrian clothes

You can hardly find anyone in the Salzkammergut who has not at least one traditional costume

People wear them on special events
