DESCRIPTION

2014 was a banner year for our Annual Literacy Camp! Not only did we see record enrollment at our 11th annual camp in Kerman, but we were fortunate enough to expand the program to our Foresthill location. In total, both Literacy Camps hosted approximately 140 students. This free four-day program, for students entering 2nd-6th grade, focuses on improving participant’s reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and storytelling skills in a fun, hands-on environment. The program was designed to help keep kids interested in learning during the long summer break since “all young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer,” according to SummerLearning.org. A very special thank you goes out to the Kerman Community Center and Foreshill Union School district for allowing us to hold our event at their facilies free of charge. Addtionally, we wouldn't have been able to do any of this without the help of our wonderful voulnteers from Sebastian and the Foresthill Lions Club.
