Honey, Thats Normal! Some children are sensitive tothe taste or smell of food and theway it feels in their mouthitstexture. 4. What You Can Try 5. More IdeasBe flexible about letting little ones get up from the table when theyare done. Babies and toddlers cant sit for long. Plan for three mealsa day of about 10-20 minutes each and 2 to 3 snacks of about 5-15minutes each.Offer your child a healthy snack between meals if you think she ishungry. This way if she doesnt eat much at one meal, she doesnthave to wait long to eat again.Limit juice to no more than 4 ounces a day. Juice has a lot of sugar. And drinking too much juice can fill children up and make them lesshungry at mealtimes. Consider adding water to the juice. Offer freshfruit instead of juice. 6. Your role Infants eat less well when caregivers are overactive andovermanaging in feeding, and best when caregivers arecalm them and feed them in a smooth and continuousfashion (Ainsworth & Bell, 1969; Brody, 1956; Crow,Fawcett, & Wright, 1980; Pollitt & Wirtz, 1981). Feeding the newborn goes best when caregivers adjusttheir approach to the infants timing, preference, pacing, and eating capability (Ainsworth & Bell, 1969). Feeding requires a division of responsibility between parentand child. The caregiver is responsible for what thechild is offered to eat, the child is responsible for howmuch (Satter, 1987). 7.
