Placement protocol

• Academic Advisor Recommendations: Green Sheets

• All majors EXCEPT Elementary Ed must meet with their Academic Program Coordinator within the next TWO WEEKS to fill out a Green Sheet with placement recommendations.

• Your Program Coordinator will have these forms.

• Your Coordinator will sign the form and send it to Laura Anne. We cannot request a placement for you without a completed Green Sheet.

• 50-mile radius to your address

• Reasonable proximity for your supervisor

• Check with your academic program coordinator.

• ALWAYS check your ASU email account.

• Our goal for placement notification is the first week of December.

School Calendar

• Start & End student teaching on ASU date --- given in official placement letter.

• Early start forms if you want to begin before 1st official day. Get from Laura Anne.

• Follow your school/county calendar during the semester.

• Campus Meetings – Opening Meeting and Career Fair/Seminar II, both at ASU. Dates will be in your official placement notification.

Major Evidences

• Impact Project --- similar to an IDP

• Professional Development Plan (PDP) --- start this now – contact Amanda Werts (wertsal) with questions

• Praxis II – If required by your major, you cannot officially graduate without it – can walk across the stage, but not receive diploma or licensure – will get an “Incomplete”

NES Testing

•Required for Elementary Ed and SPED General Curriculum majors

•Please check with your academic advisor or program coordinator for which specific tests to take.

International Student Teaching

• RCOE contacts – Dr. Bill Peacock(peacockws) or Ms. Jean Peacock (peacockjm)

• 10 weeks in North Carolina, 5 weeks abroad

• Requires application, 3 reference letters, and a $150 deposit.

• Informational Meeting – Aug. 27, 5 p.m., 124A Reich College of Education building

Health Clearance

• Physical screening

• TB Risk Assessment Form unless you have factors indicating testing

• You will be given two copies at Student Health Services. Bring one to Laura Anne. KEEP ONE IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL FOLDER. YOU WILL NEED THIS TO SUBSTITUTE TEACH OR GET A PERMANENT JOB.

• We are not able to fax your health form to potential employers. You must have your own copy.

Academic Clearance

• Fill out top portion after today’s meeting.

• Medical Clearance – from Student Health Svcs. or your provider. TAKE THIS FORM WITH YOU TO YOUR SCREENING.

• College of Ed majors: Take directly to Mel Falck in the Dean’s Office.

• Outside majors: Take to your department for processing and then to Ms. Jean Peacock in the Dean’s Office.

• Come back to Dean’s Office in a few days and ask for your processed form at the front desk. Read, sign, and KEEP THE YELLOW COPY in your professional folder.

• Bring form to Laura Anne or SLIDE UNDER HER office door – 404B.

Criminal Background Checks

• Complete ASU Criminal Background Check Form.

• Give form to Laura Anne.

• Complete on-line portion of CBC when prompted by email from Jean Peacock.

• Most counties do their own background check in addition – processes vary.

• ASU CBC’s, Watauga County, and Guilford County CBC’s are due immediately.

The Big Moment: Placement Notification!

• People will receive notifications over a 6-week period beginning as early as late October and ending as late as early December.

• You will receive an official placement email from Laura Anne. The subject will be: YOUR STUDENT TEACHING PLACEMENT.

• Do not make living arrangements until you have received this email.

• Contact your cooperating teacher as soon as possible after you receive your confirmation letter. Arrange to visit the school and meet your teacher and principal. Ensure that you are in the correct curriculum for your degree.
