Tips on Making Announcements (continued) If you do not hear back from the faculty, it is likely be-cause they are busy serving their own students. Sometimes the faculty is very busy, and email and phone just aren’t good methods for connecting. In this case you can try arriving to the classroom early, and catching the professor before class begins. Ask if you can take just a few minutes to make an important announcement. There’s a chance that the professor might ask you to come at the end of the session in-stead or perhaps on a different day, but likely they’ll give permission to announce right then. Finally, come prepared. Bring some flyers, posters, or perhaps your contact information on small slips of pa-per. You could also write your contact information on the board (just remember it might get promptly erased when class begins). All in all it takes a bit of work, but class announce-ments are a fantastic way for your group to connect with those working on similar issues that are happen-ing in the classroom. If you have any questions about the process or want to help making a class announcement, talk with the Outreach Coordinator who is happy to meet with you!

One way to get the word about your group’s events or meetings is to make announcements at the begin-ning or end of class sessions. Here are some tips on how to effectively communicate with professors about arranging class visits. First, you’ll need to research relevant courses that relate to your event or your group’s mission. Make sure you get the name of the professor, the date, and time that the class meets. You can find this informa-tion as well as the name, email and phone number of the professor online at: http://www.evergreen.edu/classschedules/ Second, get permission from the professor. Each pro-fessor is different and may prefer different methods of communication. You can start by calling or send-ing an email stating what group you are with, what you’d like to announce, and how long it will take. Having the class schedule nearby is helpful so you can list off a few dates that might work for you. If you leave a message, make sure you give a contact email or phone number that you check often. Leaving your workspace phone number may make it more difficult for the faculty to reach you, so consider leaving a per-sonal email or phone number to make it easier to connect.

Tips on Making Student Activities Announcements in Class

We’ve brought back the planning calendar so that groups can keep each other in the loop about their future events. By using the calendar, we can try to prevent a con-flict in room reservation and double booking two S+A events at the same time. When your group is planning an event, coordinators can add their event to calendar in the color purple. Purple = tentative event. When all of the paperwork is in, (TPW + CPR), and your event is official, coordinators can rewrite the event in Green. Green = definitely happening! If your event becomes official and isn’t changed to green by the week of your event, the Outreach Coor-dinator will update the calendar to reflect the change. A list of weekly group meeting times will also be posted next to the calendar on the Bulletin. This list will be the same as the one that is emailed out each week on TESCrier. If your group isn’t on this list and would like to be, talk with Nikki at the front desk.

 Hey, Check out that Calendar!

Save those flyers! Page 4

Be sure to save your posters, flyers, handbills, and any newspaper articles from your group’s events for the Stu-dent Activities scrapbook. You can turn in a copy of your flyer to the front desk each time you have an event, send an email ver-sion, or hand them in together at the end of each quarter. We don’t want to miss your con-tributions, so get them in! Any questions? See Nikki at the front desk.

ROOM RESERVATIONS for WINTER QUARTER

Reserve your meeting rooms! In order to secure a meeting space for Winter quarter, your group must submit a reservation form to your advisor before winter break. Stop in and see your advisor to get a copy of this form. When you return from break, you should find a confirmation form in your mailbox. Be aware, sometimes space scheduling will have to assign a substitute room. Be sure not to advertise your Winter meeting times until you’ve received confirmation that you’ve received the space you requested.

Here’s a few requests for you to help keep the office in tip top shape. Save the walls! The blue tape is the superior sticking agent for taping to walls, doors, and windows. Duct tape can be good for hanging banners on the railings and the front dis-play window, but it also has the power to rip off paint, leave a trail of sticky residue, and beat Chuck Norris in an arm wrestling match. Choose wisely, friends.

Use me for walls!

Thumb Tacks, Ouch! Please pick up any wandering tacks.

They puncture tires on wheel chairs and unwelcomed surprise for shoe soles.

Calling all Staplers! If you borrowed a stapler for projects or flyering, please re-turn it to the workspace when you are finished. Many are cur-rently missing in action.
