The Bell Jar- is a very transparent telling of Plath’s life.

Allusion to many real people in Plath’s life.

Including- her doctor, her patrons and teachers in Plath’s past.

Esther Greenwood (Main character of the novel) also works for the same magazine as Plath as well as attaining similar scholarships.

Hughes’s Controversy

Ted Hughes has, usually by feminists and American Plath fans, been considered Plath’s murderer.

Controversially destroyed Plath’s journals detailing the last months of their relationship.

Believed to maybe entail her thoughts on his infidelity.

as her four year old daughter, Shura

Committed the suicide by placing a mattress in the oven and turning on all the gas valves.

Brought into question Hughes husbandry.

Also committed suicide on March 23rd, 2009.

Not married, no kids and also battled depression.

Occurred forty six years after his mothers death.

Hanged himself in his own home.
