What is Teach to Lead?

Advancing student outcomes by expanding opportunities for teacher leadership—especially those that allow teachers to continue to teach.

Highlight promising models for teacher leadership

Share knowledge and resources

Encourage new commitments

Teacher expertise is essential to the decisions that affect student learning and the profession

Teachers who have leadership opportunities are more likely to stay in the profession

Effective teacher leadership = better outcomes for kids

Who is Teach to Lead?

30 organizations—and counting!—representing educators and other stakeholders have signed on as supporters

What about principals?

Teach to Lead invites principals to consider the potential of distributive leadership models and to collaborate with teachers to develop models within their schools.

By empowering teacher leaders, principals can ease their administrative burden and enable successful implementation of shared goals

Teacher leadership cannot thrive without the active support of highly effective leaders

How will it work?

Online…

• A new online community, Commit to Lead (C2L), invites educators to post ideas for teacher leadership and gain feedback.

• Teachtolead.org showcases resources and stories of teacher leadership in action from supporter organizations.

Offline…

• A series of Teacher Leadership Summits and Teacher Leadership Labs will connect stakeholders and spur new leadership commitments across the country.

Increases pathways and opportunities for teachers to lead, especially those that allow teachers to continue to teach

Elevates teacherexpertise and influence in policy and practice

Expands teacher leadership efforts whether new, in-progress, or fully implemented

C2L:Growing the dialogue

• Ideas can include videos

• Commentsections invite feedback and discussion

• Leader Board recognizes members who post the most ideas and comments, and vote on other’s ideas.

Regional Teacher Leadership Summits (3) Boston, Denver and Louisville, KY.

Educators, supporter organizations and local networks share resources and develop actionable plans specific to their contexts

Teaching & Learning 2015 conference in March will highlight progress
