….. digitalplease!
tell me a story.... Jane Challinor - Nottingham Trent University
what is digital storytelling?
I am not talking about fairytales
but a reflection on learning
it can be a combination of images, voice, words and music …..
….or something much simpler
and it lives on the web
why stories?
storytelling has been around ever since there were people
telling our story helps us to see things from a different perspective
to express emotion
to organize things in ways which make sense
so why digital?
it’s what students want https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU1SkaTsv78
21st century skillshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Euoyp_es5Ao
sharing with the worldhttps://youtu.be/kSNiRqGN0uU
what are the benefits?
it gives a voice to those students who lack confidence in their writing
it encourages creativity….
…..and digital skills
it allows students to practise speaking (in public)
it’s fun!
and the disadvantages?
it is challenging for students unfamiliar with technology
and also for teachersunfamiliar with technology!
you need to dedicate a lot of time toplanning classes, activities and assignments
…..employ scaffolding to build confidence
… give a lot of thought to suitablemarking schemes or rubrics
and think about issues arounddigital identity
how do you do it?
