When choosing a suitable club to join, you need to focus on your interests. Some clubs at the University of Nairobi are designed for students who pursue a certain course or are members of a certain community.

Not all of the 35 clubs will be suitable for everybody.

1. Rotaract

The first Rotaract Club was founded in the US in 1968 and since then it has been recognized in more than 150 countries in the world. The main purpose of this club is to empower young people by giving them the skills and knowledge they need to fulfill the physical and social needs of their communities.

This has been done by the club through professional and leadership development activities. Members of Rotaract Club engage in community activities such as visiting children’s homes, cleaning up the slums and visiting the sick.

2. Chakiku

The aim of CHAKIKU is to empower people to appreciate Kiswahili and develop the language to reach international levels. Being the language with the highest number of speakers in East Africa, it is considered a great contributor to development.

Members of CHAKIKU participate in a variety of programs such as the Annual Kiswahili Clubs Conference, fun activities like hiking and sports day.

3. Peace Units Programs

Having recognized that there are university students who were affected by the post elections violence, the Peace Units Program was founded to organize talks that will enable the institution to help the affected, not just within the school but countrywide.

PUP organizes leadership and peace symposiums, trains future leaders and other activities that are in line with the association’s mission and vision.

ENACTUS is among the popular associations at the University of Nairobi and its main role is to come up with projects that help the community to eliminate issues like Food insecurity and still make a living.

5. Peace Ambassadors Kenya

Peace Ambassadors Kenya is an association founded to empower the community to live in peace. The members of this club participate in activities that bring peace and togetherness in different communities.

Being a member of this club means that you’ll get an opportunity to interact with people, share opinions on how to promote peace and get out there and implement strategies that will make a difference.

6. Political Students Association

For those who love politics, the University of Nairobi Political Students Association is the club to join. This is an association that centers their agenda on political matters so they are very active in political issues that are affecting the country.

Most of its members are students taking Political Science at the school, but anyone is free to join.

7. Christian Union

UoN’s Christian union is one of the most recognized religious clubs in the country. The club’s members are people who share the same faith and values and engage in activities that are geared towards this.

Anyone at the university can join the Christian Union. The meetings are usually done at the main campus together with a church service every Sunday.

For those who love technology, the Google Ambassadors Kenya is one of the clubs you should consider joining. Joining this club comes with a lot of perks, among them, the opportunity to be the voices of the university when it comes to technology.

Google will consider its ambassadors when they want to launch a certain campaign within the institution. It’s one of those clubs that give you a lot of exposure in terms of technology and the opportunity to meet your peers who share the same passion.

10. Kenya Model of United Nations

Kenya Model of United Nations is another popular club at the University of Nairobi whose main aim is to empower students to participate in activities that will enhance development.
