Stefka Kostadinova

Ivet Lalova

Ivet Miroslavova Lalova-Colin is a Bulgarian athlete, competing in sprint 60, 100 and 200 meters. She is called the fastest white woman in the world. She was born in Sofia on May 18, 1984 with both parents athletes. European champion 100m for 2012, European champion indoors 100m in 2012 and 200m in 2005, a national record holder in Bulgaria of 100 meters and 200 meters indoors. Participated in two Olympics - Beijing (2008) and London (2012).

Neshka Robeva

Neshka Stefanova Robeva is a known Bulgarian athlete who later coached gymnastics and choreography. She was born on May 26, 1946 in Rousse. Graduated School of Choreography and then VIF. Competed in the national team in rhythmic gymnastics. In 1969, she became vice world champion. During the period (1976-1999) she was head coach of the Bulgarian national team in rhythmic gymnastics. For outstanding achievements in their work Robeva has won almost all state awards and the award for contribution to the world women's Olympic sport. For almost 25 years of coaching her trainees won 294 medals, 7 absolute world titles, 10 European titles and two Olympic vice titles. She is currently president of the most successful club in the world Levski since its 50 years of existence. The club has won a total of 306 medals.The most successful Bulgarian coach, who brought a lot of fame for Bulgaria.We all rember one sentence: . (Neshka is flawless/does not make mistakes)

Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics teamYesterday Bulgarian gymnasts were evaluated with 17.700 points for their combination with 5 bands and gathered a total score of 35.450 points. So for the second year in a row Bulgaria starts an excellent season in rhythmic gymnastics.Victory! Our gymnasts triumphed in Moscow. They defeated its biggest competitors the Russians.Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics team won gold medals in their first start of the year. Our girls just triumphed in the home of their biggest rivals - in the Russian capital Moscow.The team which Ina Ananieva trains is composed of: Mihaela Maevska, Renetta Kamberova, Tsvetelina Stoyanova, Tsvetelina Naydenova and Christiana Todorova. They performed error-free composition with 2 hoops and 3 pairs of bats and received a grade of 17.750 points.

Raina Kabaivanska

Raina Kabaivanska is a Bulgarian opera singer, among the most important soprano voices during the second half of the 20th century. Knight of the Order of Italy, 5 times the most popular person in Italy and 2 times the musician of the year. Born in Burgas at December 15, 1934 Her father is a veterinarian, writer, poet and university professor, and her mother physics teacher.Raina marks a spectacular success in her performances on world music scenes, which brought her worldwide fame. She sings in the opera "La Scala", Milan, which is among the world's most prestigious opera houses.Star in the New York Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Arena di Verona, Bolshoi Theatre, Covent Garden, Carnegie Hall.Lecturer in Music Academy in Italy and master classes at the New Bulgarian University.

Valya BalkanskaValya Mladenova Balkanska (born Fame Kestebekova on January 8, 1942 in Arda, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian folk singer from the Rhodope Mountains region. Valya Balkanskas career began in 1960 as a soloist in the State Ensemble for Folk Songs and Dances "Rhodope" - Smolyan, where she received her new name. The most famous of her records the solo performance of the song "Izlel e Delyu haidutin" - was made in the late 60s of the twentieth century by the American researcher of Bulgarian folklore Martin Koenig and was released on a gramophone record in the US. Several years later, a copy of the record was accidentally brought in to audition recordings in preparation for the Golden Record - a message from Earth to fly outside the Solar System on board of two identical spacecrafts of the "Voyager program of NASA. The song is included in the final 90-minute selection of music by Carl Sagan and takes flight first on "Voyager 2, which was launched on August 20, 1977, and two weeks later - on September 5, 1977 - on "Voyager 1". On August 25, 2012 "Voyager 1" becomes the first object of human origin, who left the heliosphere and entered interstellar medium.

Lili IvanovaLili Ivanova is Bulgarian pop singer. Lili Ivanova was born on April 24, 1939 in Kubrat. Since 1961 she develops continuous performing and touring, recording songs and albums, participation in media events, television programs, appearances in videos. As a sign of respect for her contribution to Bulgarian popular music she is sometimes called the "prime of the Bulgarian variety. During her career Lili Ivanova has won numerous accolades and awards.

Stoyanka mutafovaStoyana-Maria Konstantinova Mutafova is a Bulgarian actress, better known as Stoyanka Mutafova. After the real name of the actress was confused in a poster she became known to all as Stoyanka.She was born on February 2, 1922 in Sofia. Her father is playwright director Konstantin Mutafov at the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov". In 1941, she graduated from the First Sofia Girls' High School. She graduated classical philology from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the State Theatre School in Sofia. From 1946 to 1949 she worked at the theater in Prague, and from 1949 to 1956 at the National Theatre. She is a founding member of the State Theatre of Satire "Aleko Konstantinov", where she worked from 1956 to 1991.

Mutafova is the first Bulgarian actress with an award from the International Foundation "Lady Diana", among Sean Connery, Peter O`Tul, Lynn Redgrave.Honorary dimploma for "Contribution to the culture and the enrichment of world theater as its dean" will be awarded to Mutafova. International Foundation "Lady Diana" was founded in 1997 in London. It is recognized by the Queen of Britain and the royal family. Its establishment was attended by the ambassadors of 19 countries including USA, Canada, Cuba, Argentina, Australia, Qatar, Egypt, India, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Irina Bokova

Irina Georgieva Bokova is a Bulgarian politician and diplomat, Director General of UNESCO, Deputy Minister (1996) and minister (1996-1997) of Foreign Affairs in Bulgaria, Member of the VII Grand National Assembly and XXXIX National Assembly, ambassador to France and Monaco and a Permanent Representative in UNESCO. On November 15, 2009 Bokova became Director General of UNESCO.She became Doctor Honoris Causa of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in 2010 in Milan, Italy.

Kristalina georgieva

Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva is a Bulgarian economist and lecturer, European Commissioner from Bulgaria and expert on sustainable development. World Bank Vice President (2008- 2010), member of the Board of Trustees and Associate Professor in the Department of "Economics" at theUniversity of National and World Economy in Sofia. She took office as European Commissioner on February 9, 2010, when the Commission Barroso II was approved by the European Parliament. On November 30, 2010 she was declared "Commissioner of the Year" and "European of the Year" at the annual awards of the electronic publication "European Voice". She was honored for her contributions at work and in particular the management of humanitarian disasters in Haiti and Pakistan.

ELISAVETA BAGRYANAElisaveta Bagryana is an alias for Elisaveta Ljubomirova Belcheva, known among friends as Lisa Bagryana. She is a Bulgarian poet, author of children's books and translator. Elisaveta Bagryana was born on April 29 (April 16 Old Style) 1893 in a clerical family in Sofia. She lived for an year with her family in Tarnovo, where she wrote her first poems (1907-1908). She graduated secondary school in Sofia in 1910, then she was ateacher for an year in the village of Aphthane (today Nedyalsko), where she received immediate impressions of the life of Bulgarian village and the rural woman. The poems of Elisaveta Bagryana have been translated in 30 languages and published in France, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, USSR, Romania, Italy, Sweden, Poland and others. She has won the gold medal at the International Association of Poets in Rome (1969).

Dora GAbeDora Petrova Gabe (Real name: Isidore) (1888-1983) is a Bulgarian poet of Jewish origin. She graduated high school in Varna, studied science at Sofia University (1904), and French Philology in Geneva and Grenoble (1905-1906). She was a French teacher in Dobrich.From 1911 to 1932 she resides abroad repeatedly in connection with her translation activities : Poland, Germany, Switzerland,Austria, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain. Dora Gabe is a founding member of the Bulgarian-Polish Committee (1922). Counselor for cultural affairs at the Bulgarian Embassy in Warsaw (1947-1950). From 1917 unitl the end of her life Dora Gabe did actively translation work. She translated from Polish, Czech, Russian, French, and Greek the works of famous authors. Separate books and works of Dora Gabe were translated in Austria, Argentina, UK, Vietnam, Germany, Greece, Canada, Cuba, Lebanon, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, France, Czech Republic.

Rayna knyaginyaRaina Popgeorgieva Foutekova-Dipcheva, known as Rayna Knyaginya is a Bulgarian teacher, revolutionary and national heroine, who sewed the main rebel flag of the Panagyurishte revolutionary district for the April uprising. On the day of the announcement of the uprising she holds the flag alongside Benkovski. She studied Medicine in Moscow for three years and became a midwife - the first graduate midwife in Bulgaria. The Rayna Knyaginya peak on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is named after her.

Viktorya Angelova-Vinarova

Victoria Angelova-Vinarova is the first female architect in Bulgaria. Born in Tarnovo on November 20, 1902, Victoria Angelova deals with painting since childhood. After graduating from high school, she studied two semesters at the Higher Technical School in Vienna, but due to material considerations she graduated in Dresden in 1925. Her great-grandfather was the famous Tarnovo teacher and politician Nicolai Zlatarski. She won the internal competition in 1926 and designed the ministry building on her own. Today it is the building of the Metropolitan Library and Theatre "Renaissance". Admission at the door of the building is decorated with three stone heads and monumental sculpture of two seated figures - a woman, symbolizing the architecture and a man - the symbol of construction.

Anastasya DimitrovaAnastasia Dimitrova is the first Bulgarian secular teacher of the National Revival Period. Born in Pleven. At first she studied under her benefactress, the mother of the bishop. Later (1836-1839) she continued her education in Kalofer nunnery. She studied not only for a nun but also with teachers such as Botyo Petkov, Raino Popovich, Brayko Genovich, under whose leadership she studied history, geography, arithmetics, grammar. In October 1839 she founded in her hometown Pleven secular girls school, which is supported by bishop Agapi. Graduates of the school girls became teachers or founded new mutual schools in other cities in Bulgaria.Graduates studied Greek. In 1845 in the school were about 90 girls from Pleven, Lovech, Troyan, Tarnovo, Vratsa, etc., Some of them founded schools in their home towns - Svishtov, Vratsa, Lovech.

Doctor Tota VenkovaDr. Teodora / Tota / Venkova Chehlarova is a Bulgarian doctor and philantropist. / 1855 - 1921 /Her life is an example in Bulgarian history as a woman with a career. Along with only men doctors on the horizon rises a lady, who devoted her entire life to medicine and became the first woman doctor in Bulgaria. Her name is Dr. Tota Venkova.She graduated Grammar School for Girls. On August 1st 1873, only 18 years old she became a teacher in primary girls school and worked there for 4 years. During the Russo-Turkish War all schools suspended operations and were converted into hospitals. Tota Venkova became a nurse in a military hospital in Gabrovo. On September 15, 1878 Gabrovo town board issued a certificate for her teaching in Gabrovo, for best success and behavior.In 1878 Slavic Charity Society (Russia) grants scolarships to young Bulgarians to study in Russian universities. One of the selected is our young teacher from Gabrovo. She went to Russia, where she prepared for admission to the university. There she chose to study medicine. She enrolled at the University of Petersburg.In 1866, Dr. Tota Venkova returned to Bulgaria as the first female in the country with medical education.As a token of appreciation from 1971 Gabrovo Hospital bears the name Dr. Tota Venkova.
