In the past, every small and remote village had a traditional costume , in which the community is recognized and sanctioned by which social differences within it.

It was through clothing "that the gentleman was distinguished by the ignoramus ; but it was just the kind of clothing that gave the people, the peasant or t the gentleman the immediate perception of him as the others, but not to be a block of belonging to a larger group and determined the social scale : clothing so it was a real language .

“This was worth especially for the men , " conversely, women's clothing not identified themselves so directly with socio- economic or political symbols : an obvious consequence , in this case, the total exclusion of Lucan women , whatever their social level , from any form of public activity and from any kind of political interest .

This is the traditional custume that Stigliano’s people used up to 30 years .There was two versions about this costume: one that women used it daily and other one that they used during special days e.g. in the wedding day.

We’d like to explain you all custome pieces.

This is the skirt, It’s of various tissues depending on the season, It’s brown with a broad band of black velvet. The skirt is sewn with large folds. It’s called: « Vèsta Ménz» in our dialect means half dress.

It called « Uòndeséine» in our dialect and means apron.It’s black silk with lace.
