What are the Goals of Professional Development?

•Courses are designed to help you gain knowledge and learn best practices, tools, and techniques for every day use. •Courses focus on economic development building blocks, providing up-to-date tools, and techniques to meet the challenges of the future.

•Development track in pursuit of the certification

•The content of the EDI and the IEDC courses can also be used for professional development not solely to prepare you for the CEcD exam.

• Experience as a practitioner

– Minimum of four years of full-time economic development related experience

– Practitioners with five or more years of experience are entitled certain waivers

Ethics

• Adhering to a code of ethics is about maintaining a higher standard of conduct than narrower rules or laws might dictate.

• CEcDs due to recertify after January 1, 2013 are required to have two hours of ethics each cycle

• IEDC’s first web seminar on the Ethics was in November 2012. Starting in 2013, the webinar will be offered twice a year.

• The ethics workshops are offered at IEDC’s Annual Conference and Leadership Summit
