...before the model, a bit of history: his birth

on 6 April 1995 as an initiative of the Catalan Government, and suggested by Dr. Gabriel Ferrate (his first Chancellor), to provide access to lifelong learning through the use of information technologies and a personalised educational model

1995-1996

The first semester begins with two pilot degree programmes (Business Sciences and Educational Psychology) and 206 students enrolled

2009-2010

The UOC offers 1,274 courses in various master’s, degrees, postgraduate, and extension programmes and 54,000

students enrolled (75% in official degrees)
