What’s an adjective?

…a word that describes!

What’s the adjective in these sentences? (Ask yourself: “What is it like? How is it?”)The bag is big.The mountain is high.She has a long red dress.The bus went down the winding road.

Now, find the adjectives in these sentences!

The house was as silent as the grave.

The dog as big as an elephant.

REALLY quiet, like a grave!

These are SIMILES!

Similes are descriptions that compare one thing to another!

They are like SUPER adjectives!

Similes always use “like” or “as … as”

Let’s make our own!

“As quick as ???” Think of other things that are quick or fast. Make sure it is one many people could understand.

Acrostic

An acrostic is a type of poem.

The first letter of every line spells out another message or word.

People often use acrostics to remember things for quizzes or tests…For example, the planets!
