Mission and Purpose“The Volunteer UCF Center is dedicated to

promoting community service and education on various social issues to the University of Central Florida, through a variety of programs, committees, events, and ongoing projects.

VUCF links interested students with community organizations that best fit their interests, talents, and majors. We work with over 200 community agencies that utilize UCF student volunteers.

Through volunteerism students can gain valuable knowledge and experience, have a great time, and meet new friends, all while benefiting the community.”

• Seeks to provide qualified students at the University of Central Florida with legal counseling and court representation in certain cases.

• The staff attorneys interview each client individually to advise in the areas of law that concern the student.

• Cases which are not covered by the program are referred to appropriate agencies or private attorneys through a lawyer referral service.

• The operation of the program is subject at all times to the rules and regulations promulgated by the Supreme Court of Florida and the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar.

• The program is approved by the Florida Bar and is staffed by licensed attorneys.

• The purpose of this program is to encourage students to seek the advice of an attorney when they anticipate or encounter legal difficulties.

• The on-campus attorneys will advise students on any type of legal problem, with the exception of those situations listed under Restrictions.

LEGAL REPRESENTATION MAY BE PROVIDED FOR THE FOLLOWING:

• Landlord/tenant problems affecting students living arrangements in the community

• Consumer problems confronting individual students

• Discrimination problems encountered by students in securing housing or employment in the community

• Traffic violations, including criminal and Driving Under Influence (DUI) cases

• Dissolution (uncontested)

• Name changes

• Simple wills

• Bankruptcy

RESTRICTIONS ON CASESThe plan will not offer legal representation or consultation in the following

situations:

• Actions or claims against UCF, the Florida Board of Regents, or the State of Florida or its agencies or municipal bodies.

• Drafting certain instruments and searching Titles.

• Clients income-producing activities.

• Student versus student.

• Matters involving University discipline.

• Certain types of litigation.

• Referrals and fees.

• Other excluded areas.

**Student Legal Services is funded through the Activity and Service Fee as allocated by the Student Government of UCF.

HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM

• Each currently enrolled student is entitled to consult with program attorneys about legal matters and entitled to receive advice conveyed in a formal or informal manner as appropriate.

• Although this program is free as a service to the students, the program will not cover the payment of court costs, fees incidental to litigation, fines, penalties, or amounts of any judgments awarded against the student.

FAQ’SDo you have real attorneys?

- Yes. Each of our attorneys is licensed by the Florida Bar.

Can I just ask a simple question over the phone?

- No. In order for our attorneys to help you, an appointment must be made by the student.

Will the attorney accompany me to court?

- Yes. Legal representation up to and including all stages of trial will be provided in certain types of cases. For more information on which types are covered by our department, look at what we do on the Scope of the Program page.

Do you charge for your services?

- No. This program is free as a service to the students, however, the program will not cover the payment of court costs, fees incidental to litigation, fines, penalties, or amounts of any judgments awarded against the student.

Who can use the service?

- Anyone who has a legal problem, provided they're a currently enrolled student at the University of Central Florida.
