Establishing A Parent- Teacher Relationship

3

This article explores how to develop a positive relationship between teacher and parent. This

relationship is important to be built on trust in order to be most beneficial to the student.

The first encounter between teacher and parent is important and should be done within the first week

of school. This allows the parent to inform the teacher about his or her child, and for the parent to meet the teacher without any negative reports about

their child.

It is also important to have a follow up meeting approximately six months after the initial meeting.

This article also lists many guidelines for effective communication between teacher

and parent.

requesting the meeting.Allow sufficient amount of time to plan for the conference.Plan for the conference by writing down any questions

ahead of time.Remain open and supportive and show a positive attitude.Ask for examples and suggestions.Clarify and Summarize important points.

As a future elementary teacher, I think it is very important to know how to establish a good relationship with my student’s parents. This article gives helpful insight to both teachers and parents on how to make the communication most beneficial. These guidelines also give me a clear outline for the communication process. I now realize how important a first impression is. The article points out that when the first impression is negative, the communication is weak. The author states, “Neither party wins, and the biggest loser if your child.” I thought this quote truly puts it into perspective.

Even though a school may not have a fully developed music department, music can be

incorporated in all curriculums and can greatly enhance the learning process for students. It allows students to explore

themselves and their skills through creativity and expression.

Music education has no standardized way of measuring a student’s improvement

and skills, and is starting to be expendable. However, educators and the

majority of parents feel strongly that music is essential in a child’s education.

Personally, I feel that music is an important component to education. This article does a great job of pointing out specifically how music

is beneficial in the study of many different subjects. It can be a

fun way to teach students without them realizing they are even

learning. I also thought it was interesting that 95% of parents

agree that music is a key asset; however, music programs are slowly fading away. This quote had a

powerful message, “As a teacher, you have to open up every door,

to every child, to let them discover their infinite possibilities.”

Technology In The Classroom: Teacher Tube

Teacher Tube is a website very similar to You Tube in the fact that you can upload, view and share media; however, it is generated mostly by educators and is intended for teaching students and fellow teachers.

This technology can be used as a resource for finding new and interesting lesson plans, to capture interest by showing a video to your students, or for teachers to upload their own instructional videos.

Teacher Tube is also free and easy to use!

Teacher tube also has different Channels that you can subscribe to including Elementary,

Secondary, and University. You can also search for a particular topic that you are interested in.

Teacher Tube seems like it would help making lessons plans

more fun and interactive. This article gives an example of a skit

about how not to divide that is very humorous. It points out an

important fact that students spend many hours a day surfing the

net. Teacher Tube can give them something educational plus entertaining

to surf. Teacher Tube is a great way to integrate technology into

the classroom. This quote seems very true to me, “Students will be more

willing to watch a video to learn a concept than read one in a book.” This also applies to myself!

Conclusion The three articles that I explored in this power

point presentation all reflected useful knowledge in my future elementary classroom.

It is important to me to be able to communicate with parents effectively,

integrate music into my curriculum, and use technology to improve my lesson plans. These

articles can be beneficial to any educator.
