There are three things that, together, make us unique:

1. A commitment to academic excellence

• City is among the top 5% of universities in the world (Times Higher

Education World Universities Rankings) and top 30 in the UK (Times

Higher Education Table of Tables 2012)

• City has 15 areas undertaking research of a quality comparable with

the very best in the world (latest Research Assessment Exercise)

• City has a history and heritage stretching back to Victorian times

• City is not a campus University: we offer the unmatched cultural,

History

• 1852 Inns of Court

School of Law founded

– now part of City Law

School

• 1877 St Bartholomew’s

College of Nursing

founded – now part of

School of Health

Sciences

• 1894 Northampton Institute founded by City of London livery companies.

• Many original subjects still offered

History

• 1909 BSc offered

• 1927 One of the first to educate Optometrists

• 1966 City University London received Royal Charter

• 2002 Sir John Cass Business School endowed by former Lord Mayor of London Sir John Cass

• Strong links with City of London maintained through The Lord Mayor of London being the Chancellor of the University
