2. Todays Themes: Initial Assessment Diagnostic Assessment Technology based learning Ilearn Meet some colleagues. They help us with teaching, learning and are just generally helpful. 3. West Thames has embraced concepts of technology in teaching and learning, recognising that our learners achieve more through relevance, structure and fun. Learning must be FUN! Learning should be FUN! 4. We use technology for: Initial Assessment Diagnostic Assessment E-Development Moodle We link the process, so that interactive technology forms a central part of the learner journey. 5. Initial Assessment: A whole college approach 6. This is not the whole story The use of ILT in classrooms has played a part in this. The use of Vokis, QR codes, mobile phones for research, interactive Smartboard activities and good old fashioned teaching has seriously raised the profile. Using the Smartboard interactively, with learners proud to show off their own abilities to the class has engaged even the most hardened refuser. 7. Moodle Following on from IA, DA and E-Development, a Moodle site specifically for English and Maths enhances the learner journey. Tasks, videos, assessments and lessons are available. For learners that have issues with punctuation, they access the site and choose the subject from the drop down bar. These are designed to reinforce learning. 8. Data The figures for usage are impressive. For example, overall usage is: For GCSE, it is: 98% for English and 99% for Maths (retention). 87% attendance rate. In addition to this, there was full attendance at exams. 9. Ilearn 10. Ilearn: My colleague, Siobhan, will now tell you about ilearn and how a technology base has helped our learners. 11. What is i-Learn? i-Learn stands for independent learning. All Level 2 and 3 learners have up to 5 hours of independent learning a week. Blended approach covering vocational & functional skills The type of skills supported in i-Learn sessions are: researching effectively presenting your work time management digital literacy ownership of your learning setting the pace of your own learning reflecting on your learning 12. Most of the i-learn sessions take place in the Learning Resources Centre, with sessions supporting learners main subject on the first floor and English and Maths in a zoned area on the third floor. i-Learn staff work with curriculum staff to facilitate online learning and support assignment work. 13.
