What Is A Magazine Advert?

Definition: Print ads that run in local or national magazines
When it comes to magazine advertising, most people think of the large, glossy, national publications full of big brand advertisers. Artists use magazine adverts to help promote their work to a wide audience. The type of magazine the advert will be in depends on the type of music the artist creates- if the artists audience for their song is teenagers then the advert
will be advertised in a magazine that is popular amongst the younger generation. Magazine adverts often have bold colours to show the artists name and usually there is a large picture of the artist for the background of the advert- this is so it is very clear to the reader who the advert is about and what they are promoting. Not much information is included on magazine adverts, just the most important details such as the artist, the single or album name, the date
released and maybe sometimes a short review or rating of the single or album, upcoming concerts are also promoted in magazine adverts. . Magazine adverts should follow the
branding of the music video, the band/artist itself and other related products and social media (colours, logos, types of pictures etc commonly used by the artist).

Magazine adverts offer an alternative way to promote an artists music. Instead of promoting through various social media sites such as Instagram and Twitter, magazine adverts can reach a wider audience- especially the
older generation who don’t use social media as much as teenagers. By putting the advert in a magazine and making sure it is colourful and bold, readers are unlikely to miss it whereas it is easy to simply swipe up on our phone screen and miss an advert that is advertised on social media. People who follow artists on social media are likely to already be fans of them and
be aware of an upcoming single or album so by putting the advert in a magazine it will attract a new audience and therefore raise the popularity of
the artist
