Identity
This lesson I will:
• Understand why people stereotype
• Understand how my own identity is created
• Discuss why it is important to have your own identity
What stereotypes does society have of these people?
Other than the way they look, how else do these people have an identity?
Think about: How might they talk?
Use these words to help you discuss stereotypes
• Drunk• Loud• Quiet• Trustworthy• Theft• Ugly• Smart• Poor• Wealthy
• Fake tan• Mugger• Stupid• Law abiding (sticks
to the rules)• ASBO• Vain (loves
themselves)
Extension: Stereotyping is ‘bad’ as often it can be very wrong. So why, as humans, do we instantly judge others by the way they look?
Our identity is created by our actions
and experiences.
In some places, such
as online, you can
change your identity.
Your appearance and age.
The way you speak (accent or any slang words.)
Your hobbies and interests.
Your parents jobs, attitudes and the relationship you have with them.
Religion, beliefs or morals that you have.
On your copy of the diagram you need to write in as much information as you can about your identity. For example…
Compare your diagrams to each others.
Why is it important that you have your OWN identity?
